Unable to hide his emotions, Cristiano Ronaldo - captain of the Portuguese team - also shared his choked up thoughts: "Life is so unpredictable. Just now we were together on the national team, then you returned and got married. I would like to send my deepest condolences to Jota's family, wife and children. Rest in peace, Diogo and André. We will miss you very much."

Jota was a loyal fan of Ronaldo during his lifetime. The player born in 1996 has repeatedly expressed his desire to inherit CR7's leadership role in the national team.

In the most recent training session, Jota was on coach Roberto Martinez's list and played his last match for Portugal in the Nations League semi-final against Germany.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) also expressed its shock at the loss, and announced that it would hold a minute's silence before the match between Portugal and Germany at the upcoming Women's Euro in memory of Jota.

News of the accident shocked the world of football. Jota, 28, was at the peak of his career with Liverpool and the Portuguese national team. He had just won the Nations League with his national team and had just married his longtime girlfriend. The tragedy came so suddenly that fans and players were shocked.
