According to Bloomberg , two new products in the smart home device line, including the Home Hub tablet and a desktop robot, are planned to be produced in Vietnam. This is a new step in the US technology group's strategy of diversifying its supply chain and reducing its dependence on China.

The Home Hub, which acts as a smart home control center, will be assembled in Vietnam by BYD, a long-time Apple supply chain partner, the source said. BYD will handle assembly, testing, and final packaging, and the company may also expand production of some iPad models in Vietnam.

Apple aims to launch the Home Hub in March 2026, with a price tag of around $350 , higher than the second-generation HomePod and similar devices from Amazon or Google. The product is designed with a touchscreen of around 7 inches, supporting facial recognition and changing the display content according to the user's distance.

According to Bloomberg , there are two versions of Home Hub, including the model codenamed J490 mounted on a speaker base and the model J491 that can be wall-mounted. Both have integrated FaceTime cameras and a custom operating system that allows control of devices in the Apple ecosystem. This product is a bridge between the iPad and HomePod, aiming to play the role of "coordination center" in the smart home.

In addition to the Home Hub, Apple is also developing an indoor security camera (J450) expected to launch in late 2026 and a desktop robot capable of moving with a mechanical arm. This robot will have a 9-inch screen, an expected price of nearly $1,000 , and will be integrated with Apple Intelligence and a new version of Siri that supports LLM. However, due to technical challenges, the product may launch later, expected in late 2027.

The Home Hub hardware has been in the works for nearly a year, but delays in the underlying AI software have forced Apple to postpone its introduction. The new Siri will allow users to interact more naturally and control many actions in apps with their voice.

Apple currently manufactures iPads, AirPods, Apple Watches, Macs, and older HomePods in Vietnam. The addition of the Home Hub and desktop robots to the locally produced product portfolio underscores Vietnam’s growing role in Apple’s global supply chain.

Despite shifting to Vietnam, Apple still faces a 20% import tax due to the reciprocal tariff policy announced by the Trump administration this year. However, this move helps Apple reduce the risk of trade tensions and the risk of supply chain disruption in China.

The Home Hub is Apple's latest attempt at a smart home, with the goal of building a deeper ecosystem of connections between Siri, Apple Music, and HomeKit devices. It could also pave the way for the company's next generation of smart home devices over the next decade.
