Apple has begun implementing plans to expand production in Vietnam with many new devices in addition to traditional products such as iPad or AirPods. According to Bloomberg and Znews, the US technology company aims to assemble Home Hub tablets and desktop robots, and develop indoor security cameras at factories in Vietnam.

Apple puts many products on 'do not buy' list

Apple enters Vietnam with three new smart home products.

The Home Hub, which is considered the control center for smart homes, will be manufactured and assembled by BYD, a long-time company in Apple's supply chain. This unit is responsible for everything from assembly to testing and final packaging.

According to sources, Apple is expected to launch Home Hub on the market in March 2026 for about $350.

Two versions of the Home Hub were developed in parallel, codenamed J490 (mounted on a speaker stand) and J491 (with wall mounting capability). Both have integrated FaceTime cameras and a custom operating system that supports device control in the Apple ecosystem.

In addition to the Home Hub, Apple is also working on a J450 security camera, which is expected to launch in late 2026, and a desktop robot with a 9-inch screen and a mechanical arm. This robot will integrate Apple Intelligence and an optimized version of Siri (with support for a large language model – LLM). Although it is expected to launch in 2027, Apple may still delay it if it encounters technical difficulties.

Currently, Apple produces iPads, Macs, AirPods, Apple Watch and HomePod in Vietnam, so the addition of smart home devices shows the increasing strategic role of Vietnam in the company's global supply chain.

Some of the challenges Apple faces include import tariffs – “reciprocal taxes” of up to 20% recently imposed by the US President’s administration. However, manufacturing in Vietnam still helps Apple reduce risks from trade tensions and disruptions in the Chinese supply chain.

On the software side, while the Home Hub hardware has been completed for about a year, the delay in the underlying AI feature has forced Apple to adjust its release schedule. The new version of Siri will allow users to interact more naturally and control deeper into the Apple ecosystem.
