Science paves the way, local economy flourishes

According to the Department of Science and Technology, research and application of science and technology are crucial factors in the development of agriculture , farmers, and rural areas, contributing to accelerating the transformation from a traditional agricultural production system to a market-oriented, commodity-producing agricultural system. Research programs and projects in the agricultural sector, applying science and technology to production in recent years, have effectively contributed to the socio-economic development of the province, especially in improving the productivity and quality of crops and livestock, increasing the competitiveness and value of agricultural products.

Advances in science and technology have helped increase the value of agricultural products, creating conditions for Vinh Hoa Hung commune to make breakthroughs in agricultural development and to form and develop many value chain linkage models in agricultural production. According to Nguyen Van Thiem, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Hoa Hung commune, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Vinh Hoa Hung commune consider the application of science and technology and digital transformation as the key to bridging the gap between urban and rural areas, aiming towards the goal of developing a smart and sustainable new rural area. The commune has issued many mechanisms and policies to support and encourage the application of science and technology in agricultural production.

The implementation of programs, projects, production models, and vocational training courses has significantly contributed to improving productivity and quality in the production process, enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products. Along with this, the commune has mechanisms and policies to encourage people to invest in the development of concentrated, bio-secure, large-scale crop and livestock farming, linked with promoting the development of collective economic forms and creating stable output. The commune focuses on developing the agricultural economy in depth, applying high technology on a large scale along the value chain, concentrating on key products such as rice, vegetables, fruit trees, and livestock.

Most of the production development models applying scientific and technological advancements in Vinh Hoa Hung commune have been and are proving effective, contributing to the transformation of crop and livestock structures and the formation of concentrated production areas oriented towards commercial goods, increasing profits for the people. The entire Vinh Hoa Hung commune has over 11,553 hectares of rice cultivation area, with an average yield of 6.92 tons/ha, and annual food production is steadily increasing; the area of fruit trees is 610 hectares, and over 250 hectares are used for growing various types of vegetables. The commune has established 25 export-oriented cultivation area codes with a total area of over 884 hectares, accounting for 10.35% of the agricultural production area; and has 4 OCOP products ranked 3 stars.

In Dinh Hoa commune, the application of science and technology in agricultural production has contributed to a significant shift in the awareness and responsibility of all levels and sectors towards the development of agriculture, farmers, and rural areas; helping people increase profits many times over compared to traditional production methods. The commune has identified rice, brackish water shrimp, and freshwater aquatic products as its main raw material areas. Besides focusing on the transfer of science , technology, and techniques, the People's Committee of Dinh Hoa commune has strengthened the mechanization of production, invested in the construction of irrigation systems, sluices, dams, dikes, electric pumping stations, and models of production linkages and agricultural product consumption. Annual food production has increased, with high-quality rice accounting for 98%; the production of exploited and farmed aquatic products reached 9,516 tons, mainly shrimp, eels, turtles, and various types of fish. Livestock and poultry farming following biosafety guidelines has been maintained and developed.

Dinh Hoa commune proactively coordinates with relevant agencies to widely apply many scientific and technological advancements in seeds, fertilizers, and intensive farming methods to crop and livestock production. Through promoting the application of science and technology in crop and livestock farming, people have positively changed their perceptions, boldly shifting to concentrated, large-scale production, introducing high-economic-value crop and livestock varieties, contributing to increased economic efficiency per unit of cultivated land. From the restructuring of crop patterns and the introduction of new varieties, techniques, and technologies into production, the economic efficiency and quality of agricultural products have significantly improved.

“Thanks to the transfer of science and technology and training provided by the local government to improve my knowledge and skills in farming, I have boldly applied scientific and technological advancements to my family's pineapple-betel-coconut farming model on 8 hectares of land. For many years, my family's economic model has achieved high economic efficiency, yielding a profit of over 300 million VND annually,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang, a resident of Dinh Hoa commune.
