Science paves the way, local economy flourishes

According to the Department of Science and Technology, research and application of science and technology is an important factor in the development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas, contributing to accelerating the transition from traditional agricultural production to market-oriented agriculture and commodity production. Research programs and topics in the agricultural sector, and the effective application of science and technology in recent times in actual production have contributed to the socio-economic development of the province, especially in improving the productivity and quality of crops and livestock, increasing the competitiveness and value of agricultural products.

Scientific and technological advances help increase the value of agricultural products, creating conditions for Vinh Hoa Hung commune to make a breakthrough in agricultural development, forming and developing many value chain linkage models in agricultural production. According to Chairman of Vinh Hoa Hung Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Thiem, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Vinh Hoa Hung Commune consider the application of science and technology and digital transformation as the key to shortening the gap between urban and rural areas, towards the goal of developing smart and sustainable new rural areas. The commune has issued many mechanisms and policies to support and encourage the application of science and technology in agricultural production.

The implementation of programs, projects or production models, vocational training classes has significantly contributed to improving productivity and quality in the production process, enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products. Along with that, the commune has mechanisms and policies to encourage people to invest in developing concentrated, bio-safe, large-scale cultivation and livestock farming, promoting the development of collective economic models, creating stable output. The commune focuses on developing agricultural economy in depth, applying high technology on a large scale according to the value chain, focusing on key products such as: Rice, vegetables, fruit trees, livestock farming.

Most of the production development models applying scientific and technological advances in Vinh Hoa Hung commune have been promoting practical effectiveness, contributing to the transformation of crop and livestock structure and the formation of concentrated production areas towards commodities, increasing production profits for the people. The whole Vinh Hoa Hung commune has more than 11,553 hectares of rice cultivation area, the average yield is 6.92 tons/ha, the annual food output increases; the area of land for growing fruit trees is 610 hectares, over 250 hectares of land for growing various vegetables. The commune has built 25 export growing area codes with a total area of over 884 hectares, accounting for 10.35% of the agricultural production area; there are 4 OCOP products ranked 3 stars.

In Dinh Hoa commune, the application of science and technology in agricultural production has contributed to a clear change in awareness and responsibility of all levels and sectors for the cause of agricultural development, farmers and rural areas; helping people increase profits many times over compared to traditional production methods. The commune identifies rice, brackish water shrimp, and freshwater aquatic products as the main raw material areas of the commune. In addition to focusing on transferring science , technology, and techniques, the People's Committee of Dinh Hoa commune has increased mechanization in production, invested in building irrigation systems, sluices, dams, dikes, electric pumping stations, and models of linked production and consumption of agricultural products. Annual food output has increased, of which high-quality rice accounts for 98%; the output of exploited and raised aquatic products is 9,516 tons, mainly shrimp, eels, soft-shell turtles, and various types of fish. Livestock and poultry farming in the direction of biosafety is maintained and developed.

Dinh Hoa commune proactively coordinated with functional sectors to widely apply many scientific and technical advances in varieties, fertilizers, and intensive farming measures in crop and livestock production. By promoting the application of science and technology in crop and livestock production, it helped people to change positively in their awareness, boldly switch to concentrated, large-scale production, and introduce high-value crop and livestock varieties into production, contributing to improving economic efficiency per unit of cultivated area. From converting crop structure, introducing new varieties, techniques, and technologies into production, economic efficiency and quality of agricultural products have been significantly improved.

“Thanks to the transfer of science and technology from the government and local authorities, and training to improve my knowledge and skills in cultivation, I have boldly applied scientific and technological advances to production in the pineapple - areca - coconut growing model on my family's 8-hectare area. For many years, my family's economic model has achieved high economic efficiency, earning a profit of more than 300 million VND each year,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang, resident of Dinh Hoa commune.
