Messi and Suarez share a passion for investing in football.

On May 27, Suarez announced plans to form a professional football team in his native Uruguay. The 38-year-old star also announced that he invited Messi to participate in this project.

In a video posted on his social media accounts, Suarez announced that his new team will be called LSM (formerly Deportivo LS) and will start playing in Uruguay's fourth division.

"Deportivo LS has been a dream since 2018. We have grown very quickly and the team already has more than 3,000 registered members," Suarez said. "I want to give Uruguayan football opportunities and create a playground for young people and children to develop."

Suarez retired from the national team in September 2024. The 38-year-old striker currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS. Suárez played with Messi for six seasons at Barcelona and has been a teammate for the past two years at Inter Miami.

"I am very proud and happy to have Suarez's trust. I hope to contribute my part to continue developing and working alongside him in this project," Messi said in Suarez's introduction video.

Messi's exact role in the project is still unclear. Local media believe that M10 will be one of the club's major partners. In addition, Alvaro Recoba, a former Uruguay and Inter Milan player, will be the team's coach.

Suarez's announcement of his new club quickly attracted more than 40,000 followers in just 2 hours of posting.

In 2018, Suarez and his family opened a sports complex in Ciudad de la Costa, a suburb of Montevideo. The complex has an artificial turf pitch that can accommodate 1,400 spectators, along with several other large and small football fields.
