Meta says AI Studio will allow users to create AI characters with customized personalities, traits, and preferences, and enable Instagram content creators to use these AI characters as a digital clone of themselves to interact with followers in direct messages.

Users can share their AI characters across various platforms of this social media giant.
Meta announced that AI Studio will begin rolling out to Instagram Business account users on July 29th and will be available to all Meta users in the US within the next few weeks. The tool will be accessible at ai.meta.com/ai-studio and through the Instagram app, and chatbots can also be accessed via WhatsApp, Messenger, and the web.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said these AI chatbots can be used for entertainment or as personal support tools, for example, role-playing how to ask for a raise or resolve a dispute with a friend. "Essentially, you can role-play and see how the conversation goes, and get feedback on it," he said.
The company said AI Studio will allow users to limit who the chatbot interacts with and prevent them from discussing certain topics. The AI Studio usage policy prohibits users from representing anyone other than themselves. It will also set limits on historical figures, religious figures, serial killers, or "objects that might be considered hateful or illegal."
This new tool builds on Meta's Llama 3.1, the largest version of the free artificial intelligence models released last week, which supports multiple languages and boasts performance metrics that compete with paid models from rivals like OpenAI.
Meta's AI Studio manual indicates that users can customize the chatbot by providing a detailed description, along with a name and image, and then specifying how the chatbot should respond to specific input. Llama will then adapt its responses based on those guidelines.
