Mexico and EU hold 12th High-Level Dialogue on Human Rights

Mexico and the EU reviewed recent developments in the human rights situation and exchanged information on initiatives and policies in this area.

On December 17, Mexican Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (SRE) Enrique Ochoa and European Union (EU) Special Representative for Human Rights Olof Skoog chaired the 12th High-Level Dialogue on Human Rights in Brussels.

The SRE statement said that at the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to protecting and strengthening democracy and human rights through bilateral and multilateral cooperation; strengthening cooperation and alliances to protect multilateralism and achieve the agenda of protecting and promoting human rights globally.

Building on previous dialogues, Mexico and the EU reviewed recent developments in the human rights situation in the world in general and in Europe and Mexico in particular, and exchanged information on initiatives and policies in this area.

The two sides touched on the topics of gender equality, prevention of gender-based violence, poverty reduction, economic, social and cultural rights, migration issues, xenophobia, measures to protect journalists and prevent torture and coercion, as well as protecting human rights in the digital world.

The 13th High-Level Dialogue on Human Rights between the two sides is scheduled to take place in Mexico City in 2025.
