On the evening of July 1st at the Army Theater, the play "Emotional Reunion" by Truong Hung Minh Stage made the audience in the capital choke with endless applause. The play created a sublime and emotional space for the actors, in which the two artists who received the most praise were: Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi and Artist Binh Tinh.

The play has no gunshots or dramatic chase scenes often seen in crime dramas, but the play is like a sharp aesthetic knife, gently cutting deep into conflicts of morality, justice and love - the things that make up human dignity.

This is one of the few Southern stage works participating in the 5th National Professional Stage Festival on "The Image of the People's Public Security Soldier" - 2025, but it has left a strong impression thanks to its humane message and simple yet haunting performance.
The story revolves around twin brothers Trung and Hieu – two fates that diverge: one falls into darkness, the other becomes a successful engineer. In their reunion after more than twenty years of separation, they not only face the past, but also face themselves.
The emotional reunion does not have a predictable ending. It leaves a lingering question: Does justice always have to come with pain? And if we have to choose between truth and life, do we have the courage to choose?

Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi – playing two roles to say one thing
At the age of 60, Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi plays twin roles in the same play for the first time. This is not only a challenge in his acting technique, but also an effort to re-affirm himself for the veteran artist, who is familiar to audiences on the comedy stage.
Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi did not use elaborate makeup or stage effects to differentiate himself. He only used his eyes, his way of walking, and the changes in rhythm in his dialogue to portray the two contrasting personalities of Trung and Hieu.

At times, the audience has to strain their eyes to see who is who. But at other times, they are so caught up in the drama that they forget to differentiate. Because in the end, the tragedy is not who did wrong – but that both were abandoned by fate and time.

After the performance, Minh Nhi choked up and said: "I used to think I had nothing more to try. But when I accepted these two roles, I realized - there are still pains I have never acted out. Acting so that no one has to relive this tragedy again. Acting so that the audience can see themselves in each choice. When I was young, I idolized People's Artist Kim Cuong when she transformed into two roles in the play "Under Two Colors of Ao Dai", those were the roles of Ms. Bich and Ms. Be that will live forever in my memory.

And today, coming to this festival, I have a better understanding of the challenge of an artist when playing two different fates in the same play. Thank you to author Hoai Huong, People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau and Le Quoc Nam, and the creative team who worked with my stage to create this political work."

It can be said that a great artist is not because of the number of roles he plays, but because of the wounds he dares to bring to the stage. And on the night of July 1, Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi chose to let justice "cry" through those opposing roles.

Artist Binh Tinh – a police officer and the pain of a girl

In the role of Thuy Duong - the female captain of the provincial police, artist Binh Tinh completely transformed from the familiar image of a cai luong actress who often appeared in the roles of a general, a ghost, or a tragic character. Thuy Duong is the embodiment of a modern female soldier: sharp, determined, and alert to crime. But inside that cold appearance is a heart that is scarred by choices that no one has taught her in advance - when love, family, and justice struggle to the point of bleeding.
At the end, when Thuy Duong asked the commander for permission to let the twin brothers Trung and Hieu meet after 20 years apart, her face was kind, tolerant and full of emotion. Not long before, her face was frozen like a statue while interrogating Trung, determined to find clues to the murder case, in which the perpetrator admitted to being the criminal but was not at the scene of the crime.

Just a few minutes later, two lines of tears flowed down – not the tears of a woman, but the tears of a soldier with a compassionate heart.

This role helps me understand more deeply the pain of people in uniform - they not only fight crime, but also fight with their own emotions" - Artist Binh Tinh shared.
Without media noise or promotional gimmicks, "Emotional Reunion" still attracts special attention among dozens of plays with the same theme. Simply because it arouses a deep need in the audience: to see the truth, to cry with justice, to believe that even in the dark, people can still find each other with love.

Sharing with the press, Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi said that this is a socialized stage in Ho Chi Minh City that seeks a new approach to the topic of people's police, emphasizing a humanistic perspective instead of a rigid stereotype.

It is the choice to put pain above action that has motivated the crew to rehearse and invest creatively to contribute to the political drama genre that seems to be gradually losing ground on the Southern stage.

What lingers in the end is not the stage, not the lights or the plot twists. It is the feeling that the audience leaves the theater with many emotions, as if they have just encountered a part of a forgotten memory.

Some people were moved to tears seeing Trung's parents in his tragedy. Some held each other's hands tighter when watching the scene where Trung and Hieu met, which was handled very intelligently by the director.
