On a late May morning, the construction site of the road connecting National Highway 6 to Highway 12B in the southern part of the province resounded with the noise of engines. At many construction points, workers divided into groups were diligently working under the scorching sun. The atmosphere of urgency reflected the determination to accelerate the project's progress.

The contractor is accelerating the construction progress of the National Highway 6 to Road 12B project.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, an excavator operator on the project connecting National Highway 6 to Road 12B, said: "The completion of this road will make travel easier for people. People will have more opportunities to develop tourism and trade, and the workforce will find it easier to commute to industrial zones and clusters. Therefore, the unit is determined to accelerate the progress as quickly as possible."
According to a representative of the Hoa Binh Regional Project Management Board, the road project connecting National Highway 6 to Doc Lap, Du Sang, and Road 12B has a length of 18.18 km with a total investment of 450 billion VND. Construction began in March 2024, and to date, the total value of work completed on the route has reached over 190.5 billion VND, equivalent to 52.6% of the contract value. The project is continuing with land clearance and the contractor is working on the remaining items.
Meanwhile, at the Hoa Binh - Hanoi regional connecting road project and the Son La (Hoa Binh - Moc Chau) expressway, 25.65 km out of 31.642 km of land has been handed over (approximately 82%). To date, the construction value has reached VND 644 billion, or 38.6% of the contract value. Contractors are currently carrying out excavation and embankment work, laying crushed stone base, and some sections have already been paved with asphalt concrete.
According to assessments, the transportation projects currently underway in the province are not merely transportation projects, but also a sign of a new development mindset, using infrastructure as a lever to expand economic space, connect industrial zones, tourist areas, and inter-regional growth axes.
In reality, the rugged mountainous terrain, limited supply of construction materials, land clearance issues, and investment capital pressures pose significant challenges in project implementation. However, the ongoing construction on these large-scale sites demonstrates the province's determination to overcome these obstacles.
From mid-2025 to the present, a series of major projects have been continuously implemented and gradually put into operation, such as the route connecting the Ho Chi Minh Highway with National Highway 70B, National Highway 32C to Yen Bai, the route connecting the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway with the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho Expressway, the road parallel to the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway line, the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway... These routes are gradually shortening geographical distances, reducing logistics costs, and creating momentum to attract investment. |
Transportation is becoming one of the key drivers of the province's development in the new phase. Thanks to the gradual removal of infrastructure bottlenecks, the province's external transportation system has significantly improved during the 2020-2025 period, contributing to an enhanced investment environment. By 2025, the province's economy is projected to grow by 10.52%; total FDI is expected to reach approximately US$1.5 billion, a 64% increase compared to the previous year; and domestic investment is projected to reach nearly VND 260.5 trillion.
Not stopping at existing projects, Phu Tho province is continuing to prepare a series of large-scale transportation projects. According to the Department of Construction, the province is currently preparing for investment in 26 transportation projects with a total estimated investment of approximately 35,000 billion VND. These projects focus on connecting expressways, ring roads, urban bypasses, connecting industrial zones and tourist areas, and upgrading existing provincial roads. Notable among these are the Viet Tri - Hoa Binh road project connecting the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway with the Hoa Binh - Son La expressway, with a total length of 56 km; the Capital Region Ring Road 5 project; and the parallel road to the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway line...

Several sections of the road project connecting National Highway 6 to Doc Lap and the old Du Sang road, linking to National Highway 12B, are gradually being completed.
According to Mr. Quach Tat Liem, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, regional transportation links are being identified by the province as a strategic breakthrough to expand development space. The province is focusing on building a transportation system that is synchronized and modern, strengthening linkages between regions and effectively connecting with other provinces in the region. During implementation, the province is paying special attention to the synchronization between transportation and urban development, industrial zones, and logistics infrastructure. This is the basis for reducing transportation costs and enhancing competitiveness in the coming period.
From today's large-scale construction sites and those in the future, a modern transportation network is gradually unfolding. As these connecting routes are completed, not only will geographical distances be shortened, but the potential for development will also expand. Simultaneously, this will pave the way for Phu Tho's new aspirations for strong growth in the coming period.
