Opening trade routes for agricultural products

The traffic project with a total investment of 100 billion VND in Quy Mong commune is opening a new chapter for the land that is the capital of Bat Do bamboo shoots and cinnamon, promising to remove "bottlenecks", creating leverage for thousands of households to develop the economy.

For many years, the road connecting Kien Thanh commune (old) with Provincial Road 166 has been a major concern for the people. Although it was upgraded more than 10 years ago, the road is still narrow and degraded. For an economic region that relies mainly on agricultural and forestry products such as bamboo shoots, cinnamon and wood, poor transport infrastructure has hindered development.

Mr. Tran Van Phan, a villager, could not hide his fatigue when recalling the old road: "Every rainy season, this road is very difficult to travel because it is muddy and full of "buffalo and elephant potholes". Many landslides and underground overflow sections are deeply flooded when it rains heavily, making it impossible for people to pass." This situation not only causes the transportation of agricultural products to be delayed and increases costs, but also directly affects the value of the products when they reach traders.

Faced with this situation, the Quy Mong - Kien Thanh emergency repair project was implemented in early 2025 with a total investment of 100 billion VND. According to the design, the entire route is 13 km long, the roadbed is widened to 6.5 m and the road surface is paved with asphalt concrete.

This is not only a simple traffic project but also a "lifeline" carrying the hope of changing the lives of the people. The route will connect the bamboo and bamboo shoots capital of Bat Do commune with processing factories and large consumer markets, creating leverage for socio-economic development.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Thu - Secretary of Quy Mong Commune Party Committee

It is worth mentioning that the power to create the road does not only come from the State's capital but also from the consensus of the whole community. More than 300 households voluntarily donated more than 30 hectares of land for site clearance. This is an act that clearly demonstrates sacrifice for the common good.

A typical example is the family of Mrs. Vu Thi Chinh in Kien Lao village who did not hesitate to donate part of their garden land, including areca trees, which each year bring in tens of millions of dong in income. Despite the regret, Mrs. Chinh still happily shared: Although the areca trees were lost when building the main road, the whole family agreed to destroy them to make way for the road. With the main road, people are much more excited.

At the construction site, the construction atmosphere is also extremely urgent. According to Mr. Tran Tinh Phuong - Construction Team Leader of Yen Bai Traffic Construction Joint Stock Company:

Although the unpredictable weather has significantly affected the progress, the unit is still determined to overcome the difficulties. "The company has directed to increase working hours, organize 3 shifts and mobilize more machinery. When the weather is favorable, the unit will deploy many construction sites at the same time to make up for the rainy days when work cannot be done" - Mr. Phuong said.

With the joint efforts of the government, people and the construction unit, the project is striving to be technically open to traffic in December 2025. The new road not only helps people and students travel more conveniently and safely, but more importantly, it helps local agricultural products to reach further, thereby improving the lives of thousands of households of the Dao, Tay and Mong ethnic groups in the commune.
