"Bridge" of knowledge in Ta Xi Lang

In recent years, when access to the Internet and scientific and technological advances were limited, people in Ta Xi Lang commune have turned to the communal bookshelf as a familiar place to explore new knowledge. From simple pages of books, many households have gradually exploited and applied knowledge to production, improved their lives, and nurtured the desire for change in the highlands.

On a midweek afternoon, at the reception room at the commune People's Committee headquarters, in addition to people coming to do administrative procedures, the small corner where the community bookshelf is located also welcomes a few groups of students and adults. Some children chattered while choosing comic books, their eyes wide open, fascinated by each colorful page. Some farmers slowly flipped through a book on livestock farming techniques, reading and exchanging experiences. That atmosphere made anyone who stopped by clearly feel the joy and community connection here.

Gently arranging the books neatly in the bookcase, Mr. Giang A Ho in Xa Nhu village shared: Since having the bookcase, I often come here to read or borrow them to study more thoroughly. I often read books on animal husbandry and disease prevention. There are many new, very good and simple disease prevention techniques. Thanks to applying those new techniques, my family's 7 buffaloes, cows, 5 pigs and nearly 200 chickens are always healthy and grow quickly. My family's income from animal husbandry is much more stable than before.

Just like adults, from the simple pages of books in the community bookshelf, the dreams of many students in the commune have taken flight. Many have found a passion for learning, become more confident in communication and know how to set goals for the future.

Mua Thi Sua, from Ta Cao village, excitedly said: Reading books, I learn many new things. I like books about the customs of Vietnamese ethnic groups and stories about scientists the most. I dream of becoming a teacher in the future to teach children to love reading books. The dreams and passion for learning of Ta Xi Lang children become more meaningful in the context of difficult life in the highlands, and limited access to modern knowledge from the Internet. Therefore, the community bookshelf has become an important bridge to meet the needs of learning and exploring the vast world of both children and adults.

Amidst the peaceful life of the highlands, knowledge is like a bridge that silently brings people here to new opportunities. Especially in a commune like Ta Xi Lang, where more than 97% of the population is Mong ethnic minority, the roads are long and learning conditions are poor, so the community bookshelf plays an even more important role. Based on that need, in 2024, the Provincial Library donated hundreds of books and equipment to establish a community bookshelf in Ta Xi Lang commune.

Since then, the bookshelf has become a familiar address for many people. About 400 books are carefully selected, from learning materials for students to books on agriculture , animal husbandry, cultivation, and books recording customs, ethnic culture, and legal regulations. Every year, all books are rotated with other basic bookshelfs to help people always have access to new knowledge, avoid boredom, and create motivation to read regularly.

In addition, to promote the effectiveness of the community bookshelf, the commune also focuses on mobilizing and encouraging people to maintain the habit of reading. Cultural officers regularly guide reading skills and methods suitable for each age group; orient healthy reading tastes, and arouse the passion for learning.

An expert from the Department of Culture and Society of Ta Xi Lang - Mua A Su commune said: The bookshelf helps people improve their knowledge and supports the government in propaganda and mobilization work. Contents on preventing early marriage, preserving good customs and practices, or new economic models are all very practical for highland areas like Ta Xi Lang. Many households have boldly applied knowledge from books to production, and their lives have changed significantly.

It can be seen that the Ta Xi Lang communal bookshelf has become a “bridge” of knowledge, adding confidence and motivation to people in the highlands. Those small pages have been and are opening the way for change every day, helping people confidently rise up, get rich legitimately, and preserve cultural identity right in their homeland.
