Dream big to go far.

“Dream bigger for An Giang agriculture,” the message from Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan during his working visit to An Giang on July 13th is an advice and a call to action for a change in thinking within the agricultural sector. According to Mr. Le Minh Hoan, it is time for businesses and farmers in the province to think further ahead, with a broader scope, and then realize this through concrete actions to build a sustainable, modern, and deeply integrated agricultural sector.

The aspiration for development constantly drives businesses to innovate, expand production daily, and embrace new technologies in agriculture . Five years ago, An Giang Vegetable and Foodstuff Joint Stock Company (Antesco) built a closed value chain from production to processing and export of its main products (baby corn and vegetable soybeans). The company collaborated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Provincial Farmers' Association to develop export-standard growing areas, with over 10,000 hectares of linked agricultural land across the province.

Antesco's General Director, Nguyen Hoang Minh, stated: “We are preparing to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in national science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation; and Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW on the development of the private economy of the Politburo . Currently, the company operates 4 factories and 12 production lines, achieving a productivity of 75,000 tons per year and 180 export containers per month. Simultaneously, we are improving technological processes, investing $25 million in building modern factories and technology; 100% of our factories utilize electronic traceability; and we have 25 large-capacity cold storage and freezer rooms for optimal product preservation.” Mr. Minh hopes for more flexible support mechanisms to enable the company to build a factory to process waste into organic fertilizer, which will then be supplied to farming areas.”

According to Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan, in the journey to "put Vietnamese agricultural products on the world map," farmers must be at the center. He also emphasized that businesses need to be ready to seize opportunities from Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW to effectively "shift their focus" and optimize existing value. "Businesses exporting billions of USD still pay attention to farmers' income. This income must be quantified specifically each year to demonstrate that farmers benefit significantly when they cooperate with businesses. Instead of using the term 'guaranteed purchase,' we must use 'collaboration,' providing machinery support to farmers, clearly showing the role of the private sector through creating opportunities for farmers and developing the rural economy," Mr. Le Minh Hoan shared.

Comrade Le Minh Hoan proposed ways for businesses to forge strong bonds with farmers: honoring them in communication campaigns, incorporating images of farmers into promotional videos, opening small community centers in the fields so farmers feel cared for, or simply sending them documents on health and production techniques regularly. This is how businesses not only sell products but also sell their brand, trust, and a culture of connection.

A prime example is Mr. Dao Van Hung, a young farmer residing in Binh Giang commune, who cultivates 70 hectares of rice under a cooperative model. Mr. Hung stated: “Previously, we followed the old methods, planting and letting things happen as they would. Now, we participate in the Sustainable Development Project for 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta by 2030. Our agricultural products meet the stringent requirements of markets such as Europe, the US, and Japan, yielding a higher income of 3-5 million VND per hectare. Seeing the clear benefits, we are ready to change our mindset and cooperate long-term with businesses.”

To realize big dreams, we need to "green" production, aiming for sustainable wealth creation. All processes must be closed-loop, circular, minimizing waste, and protecting resources and the environment. Every part of the plant, from the stem and leaves to the roots, must be utilized efficiently.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly also suggested a new direction for businesses: combining agriculture with tourism. For example, linking with travel agencies to organize experiential tours such as grilling shrimp on-site, visiting durian or organic rice farms. Although the revenue may not be large, the effectiveness in communication, brand positioning, and customer trust is very high. This is also a way to create jobs for local workers, helping them stay connected to their hometown. "Innovation is a vital element. Agriculture still has much room for breakthroughs. Dream higher, dream further, and turn those dreams into driving forces for development in practice," Comrade Le Minh Hoan urged.
