In a video posted on mainland social media, an unnamed girl in Jilin Province, Northeast China burst into tears when she discovered that the "surprise gift " her father sent her was just an exercise book.
The video was filmed by the mother, with her daughter standing beside her in the living room. With a big smile, the little girl leaned forward to open a gift box from her father.
"Are you happy?" - the mother asked the girl in the video.
"Yes, I'm very happy, Mom," the little girl replied as she opened the gift box.
"This is a surprise gift from your father," the mother continued.

After opening the gift box, the little girl saw only a yellow homework book inside, so she was clearly disappointed.
"What is this? Why did you buy me an exercise book?" she asked, turning the pages.
The little girl's mother burst out laughing and reminded her daughter that it was a gift.
The girl then said nothing more, closing the exercise book. As if afraid that she had not checked it thoroughly, she continued to search the box to see if she had missed anything.
