On November 13, Mr. Vo Trung Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district ( Kon Tum province) informed about the decision to approve the Project to expand the scope of protection of the geographical indication "Ngoc Linh" for ginseng products in Kon Tum province.

Previously, on November 11, the People's Committee of Kon Tum province issued Decision No. 732/QD-UBND dated November 11, 2024 approving the science and technology project on the Project to expand the scope of protection of the geographical indication "Ngoc Linh" for ginseng products in Kon Tum province.

According to the decision, this project will be implemented in 2025, under the province's intellectual property development program for the 2021-2030 period. The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Science and Technology to organize the selection of organizations and individuals to preside over approved science and technology projects.

The research content is to build a scientific and practical basis for registering to expand the scope of protection of the "Ngoc Linh" indication for ginseng products in the communes of Tu Mo Rong, Dak Ha, Dak Sao, Dak Ro Ong (belonging to Tu Mo Rong district); Dak Man (except for sub-zones 16, 17, 18, 20, 22, 25 and part of sub-zones 19, 21, 23, 24), Dak Plo, Dak Nhoong, Dak Choong communes (except for sub-zones 59, 60, 65 and part of sub-zones 19, 21, 23, 24, all belonging to Dak Glei district); Dak Tang, Mang But communes (belonging to Kon Plong district) and Dak Koi (belonging to Kon Ray district).

The general objective of the project is to build a scientific and practical basis for registering the expansion of the scope of protection of the geographical indication "Ngoc Linh" for ginseng root products in Kon Tum province. The specific objective is that the geographical indication "Ngoc Linh" for ginseng root products in Kon Tum province is expanded and granted a certificate of protection by the Department of Intellectual Property according to regulations (attached with the decision of the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee).

According to Mr. Vo Trung Manh, Chairman of Tu Mo Rong District People's Committee, in the district, the communes that have been granted the Ngoc Linh geographical indication for ginseng root products are Dak Na, Mang Ri, Ngoc Lay, Ngoc Yeu, Van Xuoi and Te Xang. Thanks to being granted the geographical indication, Ngoc Linh ginseng in the area has a brand name, trusted and chosen by consumers to use to improve health.

The areas that have been granted ginseng root guidance are currently being planted by the Xo Dang people and businesses together to grow Ngoc Linh ginseng, benefiting and enriching themselves under the forest canopy. The Xo Dang people have become billionaires thanks to ginseng, with some households earning up to 10 billion VND from selling ginseng seeds.

In addition to the 6 communes granted the Ngoc Linh geographical indication mentioned above, 4 communes are being included in the research to expand the Ngoc Linh geographical indication, namely Tu Mo Rong, Dak Ha, Dak Sao, Dak Ro Ong, which also have potential, soil, and climate favorable for growing Ngoc Linh ginseng. These are old forests, suitable altitude, and cold climate. In fact, in the 4 communes included in the above research list for expansion, people have also experimented with growing Ngoc Linh ginseng and the ginseng grows and develops very well.

Expanding the scope of protection of the geographical indication "Ngoc Linh" for ginseng root products helps people have more opportunities to develop their economy from this plant.
