HIV prevention and control communication activities of a community support group in the province. |
Methadone treatment for opioid addiction has been implemented stably at 15 treatment facilities and 8 drug dispensing facilities, managing 2,796 patients. The province also discovered 46 new cases of HIV infection, bringing the total number of cases to 11,481. The number of deaths due to HIV/AIDS is 43; currently 5,402 people are living with HIV/AIDS.
Notably, the implementation of the goals in the current National Strategy for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control has achieved many positive results. Specifically, 88.96% of people infected with HIV know their status; 81.64% of people who know their status have been treated with ARV drugs - positive results but still need to be improved. The third goal alone has exceeded the target, with 99.25% of people on treatment having a viral load below the suppression threshold, contributing to limiting HIV infection in the community.
In the coming time, the Thai Nguyen Health sector will continue to promote communication, expand screening and improve treatment quality towards the goal of "ending the AIDS epidemic" by 2030 according to the Government's roadmap.
