Mourinho speaks out about huge salary at Benfica

Coach Jose Mourinho denied information that he is receiving a salary of 15 million pounds/year at Benfica.

Portuguese media reported that Mourinho could receive nearly £30 million over two seasons, including £14 million in the first season and £15.7 million in the second season.

However, the “Special One” denied this information in a recent press conference. He said: “If I stayed at home until the end of the season, I would earn more money than when I led Benfica. Here I am even losing money. But why am I still working? Because I love this job and I miss the feeling of fighting for the championship."

The 62-year-old coach continued to emphasize that money is not the only motivation for him to continue his career: "What motivates me is to challenge myself, to face risks, to feel that I can do very well today but badly tomorrow. That is what takes me out of my comfort zone."

Last week, Mourinho officially debuted at Benfica, marking his return to the team where he started his coaching career in 2000. Before that, the Portuguese coach was a free agent after being fired by Fenerbahce for failing to qualify for the Champions League.
