Heavy rain caused flooding and landslides on many roads in the province.

Heavy rain lasted from the night of June 24 to the morning of June 25, causing some places in Lao Cai province to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and landslides and localized flooding in some locations.

Heavy rain since the night of June 24 has caused flooding in Ngoi Duong stream (Binh Minh ward, Lao Cai city), submerging people's crops.

The highest rainfall measured at the stations (measured from 7:00 p.m. on June 24 to 7:00 a.m. on June 25) is as follows: Cam Con: 144.2mm, Kim Son: 119mm (Bao Yen district); Trung Chai: 132mm; Ban Khoang: 133mm; O Quy Ho: 110.4mm, Ngu Chi Son: 90mm, Ban Ho: 82.6mm, Ta Van: 79mm (Sa Pa town); Nam Cuong: 107.6mm, Cam Duong: 88mm (Lao Cai city); Vo Lao - Van Ban: 95.6mm; Gia Phu: 78.4mm; Phong Hai: 73.6mm, Pho Lu: 70mm (Bao Thang district); Sin Cheng - Si Ma Cai: 72.8mm.

The remaining stations have average rainfall from 30mm - 60mm. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and local lightning causes impacts and damage to constructions, houses and agricultural production.

Heavy rain also cut off many roads in Quang Kim commune, forcing authorities to stretch out warning ropes to warn people of danger.

According to quick reports from localities in the province, the initial preliminary damage situation is as follows:

Up to now, there have been no human casualties. However, heavy rain lasting for many hours has caused localized flooding, damaging equipment and belongings of 20 households in groups 23, 26, 27, 28 in Pom Han ward, Lao Cai city; inundating 19 hectares of corn and crops of people in many locations in Lao Cai city (16 hectares) and Bat Xat district (2 hectares). As of 10:00 a.m. this morning, the water has not yet receded, so the extent of the damage cannot be assessed.

Some roads have been eroded and are impassable.

Heavy rain also affected traffic on some routes, such as: National Highway 4D section km 94+600 in O Quy Ho ward (Sa Pa) had a landslide on the positive slope, currently cars can still pass; Road 4E in Lung Phinh commune (Bac Ha) was flooded 0.3m deep; On Provincial Road 155, Can Ty village section, Ban Xeo commune (Bat Xat) also had a landslide on the positive slope, with a volume of landslide of 200m3; Provincial Road 159, at Km66+650, Km73+700 and Km73+800 in Pac Ke village, Ban Lien commune (Bac Ha), there were 3 landslides causing traffic jams. Currently cars cannot pass, motorbikes have difficulty traveling.

In addition, heavy rain also caused landslides in Un Ta village canal, Coc San commune (Lao Cai city) with about 50m3 of rock and soil.

Currently, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT and TKCN) has sent warning bulletins from the Lao Cai Hydrometeorological Station to the on-duty staff of districts, cities and towns; issued documents to localities to proactively deploy measures to prevent, avoid and respond to heavy rains, flash floods, landslides, thunderstorms, lightning strikes and the risk of landslides. At the same time, urge localities to proactively prevent and respond to possible natural disasters; regularly contact and grasp information on damage situations, synthesize reports to superiors according to regulations; request the PCTT and TKCN Steering Committee of Bat Xat and Bac Ha districts, Sa Pa town, Lao Cai city to direct the People's Committees of affected communes and wards to mobilize local forces to help households clean up and reinforce their houses; clear flood drainage systems, repair landslide-damaged traffic routes to ensure safety for traffic participants.
