Dai Ninh Hydropower Company is the unit that manages and operates Dai Ninh Hydropower Reservoir with a capacity of 320 m3, the reservoir belongs to Lam Dong province and the Factory belongs to Binh Thuan province. Besides the task of generating electricity, the factory also has another task which is to supply water for production and daily life in the downstream area of Binh Thuan province.
Spillway project of Dai Ninh hydroelectric reservoir.
Right from the beginning of the dry season in 2023, the Company has proactively worked with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Thuan province and the Irrigation Sub-Department of Binh Thuan province to unify the plan to regulate water supply for downstream areas to serve production and daily life in the spirit of ensuring harmony between the two goals of water supply and power generation; The Company has also coordinated with the National Power System Dispatch Center to exploit the generator set to ensure the downstream water supply flow as committed and effectively use the water source through the generator; therefore, from the beginning of 2023 to now, Dai Ninh Hydropower Plant has ensured sufficient water supply for the downstream areas of Binh Thuan province.
In April and early May, the hot and dry weather occurred nationwide, causing many hydroelectric reservoirs across the country to have very low water flow compared to the average of many years; so currently most hydroelectric reservoirs, including those in the Central Highlands, are at low water levels. As of 6:00 a.m. on May 15, 2023, Dai Ninh hydroelectric reservoir only reached 862.027 m and was 2.027 m from the dead water level, corresponding to the remaining useful capacity of 16.430 million m 3 .
The water in the reservoir has dropped very low.
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the EL Nino phenomenon is likely to appear in late May, early June and may last until early 2024, causing high temperatures and low rainfall compared to the average of many years; this may lead to continued poor water flow to Dai Ninh Lake in the coming time. And with the current operating situation, it is expected that by the end of May, if the flow to the lake remains low, the water level of Dai Ninh Hydropower Lake will return to the dead water level (860.0 m); therefore, ensuring the operation of generators during the dry season months for the National Power System and ensuring agricultural production downstream of Binh Thuan province is a rather difficult task. On the part of the Company, it will always coordinate well with relevant agencies to regulate the reservoir to ensure effective and economical exploitation of water resources, serving agricultural production downstream of Binh Thuan province in the remaining dry season months of 2023.
