According to the plan, by October , Ukraine's monthly grain output is expected to increase to 4 million tons.
A significant portion of the country's grain will be transported along the Danube River and across the Black Sea to nearby Romanian ports for further destinations. However, this route is more expensive and takes longer.
US State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel said Washington called on Moscow to immediately return to the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
"The US is looking for options and corridors to transport grain," the official said, without providing further details. Türkiye and the United Nations (UN) are also continuing diplomatic efforts to bring Russia back to the agreement.
* On the same day, Russian Ambassador to Türkiye Alexei Yerkhov said that Moscow is working with partners on an alternative to the Black Sea Grain Initiative to provide food to countries in need.
“The Black Sea Grain Initiative is by no means a ‘panacea’ for meeting the food needs of Africa and other countries. There are alternatives to the agreement and they are being actively studied,” Ambassador Yerkhov said.
The Russian Ambassador to Türkiye also stressed that “Russia itself has made a huge contribution to ensuring global food security” and “only after meeting Russia's requirements will we talk about continuing the grain agreement.”
