General Mark Milley, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff
CNN on September 17 published an interview with General Milley about China's military power. Accordingly, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the US should make every effort to avoid armed conflict with China.
General Milley added that the US has participated in two wars between major powers, namely World War I and World War II. Therefore, the US should avoid the risk of similar conflicts in the future.
Regarding the possibility of China sending troops to Taiwan, the US general said that Washington is fully capable of repelling the attack. General Milley affirmed that the US always expects a peaceful outcome between Beijing and Taipei.
During a hearing before the US House Armed Services Committee in March, General Milley said that while the risk of conflict with China is not imminent or inevitable, the US military needs to maintain a stronger force than China to prevent any possible scenario.
CNN mentioned a worrying fact: since July 2022, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff has not met with his Chinese counterpart. And it is likely that the dialogue will not take place until General Milley retires at the end of this month.
