US attacks Iranian missile facilities.

On May 25, the US Central Command announced that US forces had attacked missile sites in southern Iran and ships attempting to lay mines.

U.S. Central Command spokesman Tim Hawkins announced the attack but provided no further details: "U.S. forces today conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran to protect our troops from threats from Iranian forces."

The attack occurred as Iran's top negotiators were in Doha that same day to hold talks aimed at ending the conflict with the United States.

The faint hopes for an agreement in recent days have been dealt a new blow as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared he would "crush" Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, while US President Donald Trump demanded a broad Middle East deal, including the normalization of relations with Israel, as part of any agreement with Iran.

Mr. Trump emphasized that it was mandatory for Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye, Bahrain, and Jordan to sign the Abraham Accords.

The Abraham Accords are an agreement brokered in 2020 with countries that have historically been hostile to Israel. Bahrain and the UAE signed the agreement, along with Morocco and Sudan.

Regarding the handling of Iran's enriched uranium, Mr. Trump stated: "The enriched uranium will be immediately transferred to the United States for destruction, or better yet, destroyed in coordination with Iran at the site or at another acceptable location, in the presence of the Atomic Energy Commission or equivalent agency."

The Atomic Energy Commission that Mr. Trump referred to was dissolved in 1974, and its functions were divided between two successor agencies.
