Ho Chi Minh City accounts for 15.75% of the country's GDP, growing 6.5%
This group of 5 localities has a GDP growth rate that is superior to the remaining 58 provinces and cities. The GDP growth rate of the 5 localities far exceeds the average GDP growth rate of the whole country.
In the past 6 months, the group of 5 provinces and cities leading in GRDP growth (total product in the area) included: Bac Giang increased by 14.4%, Khanh Hoa increased by 12.73%, Thanh Hoa increased by 11.49%, Ha Nam increased by 11.35%, Hai Phong City increased by 10.3%.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hanh - Director of the Department of National Accounts System, General Statistics Office, the provinces and cities with the highest GRDP growth rate in the first 6 months of 2024 are localities with great contributions from the processing and manufacturing industry.
In addition to the 5 localities leading in GRDP growth rate, Ms. Hanh also said that in the 6 months, there were 5 localities with a large contribution to the country's GDP, with high GRDP growth rate, exceeding the average GDP growth rate of the whole country.
Ho Chi Minh City accounts for 15.75% of the country's GDP, with a growth rate of 6.5%; Dong Nai province accounts for 4.23% of the country's GDP, with a growth rate of 6.8%; Hai Phong city accounts for 3.71% of the country, with a growth rate of 10.32%.
Quang Ninh province accounts for 2.97% of the country's GDP, achieving a growth rate of 9% and Thanh Hoa province accounts for 2.75% of the country's GDP, achieving a growth rate of 11.49%.
GDP growth will reach the target of 6 - 6.5%
Commenting on the possibility of achieving the GDP growth target of 6-6.5% this year set by the National Assembly, Ms. Hanh said that it is likely that the target will be achieved. With the GDP growth rate in the first 6 months reaching 6.42%, at the upper limit of the target of 6-6.5%, this is a positive signal for the growth target for the whole year.
Regarding the economic context, Ms. Hanh assessed that although the world economy is recovering slowly, international organizations have given more optimistic forecasts for global economic growth in the last 6 months of the year, forecasting an increase of 0.1 - 0.3%, this is a positive signal for the economy.
Domestically, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector will have more favorable conditions for seafood exports in the last 6 months of the year.
The industry - construction sector, the premise for growth for the whole year, also showed better signs in the third quarter.
For service industries, the last 6 months of the year have opportunities for development if we exploit tourism activities well, creating spillovers to service industries.
Based on the world economic situation and the domestic economic situation, the General Statistics Office believes that the economy will achieve the annual growth target of 6 - 6.5% set by the National Assembly.
But to achieve the upper limit of growth of about 6.5%, it is necessary to implement many drastic solutions to maintain socio-economic stability, ensure macro balance, control inflation well, and promote strengths.
