Male student achieved perfect score in specialized subject to enter 10th grade of Natural Science school

The valedictorian of the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences this year is Phan Sy Hung Phong, a new student in the chemistry class. He scored 10 points in the specialized subject and 8 points in the conditional math subject. His total score is 28, while the admission score for the chemistry class is only 17.5.

Phong is a secondary school student at Archimedes Academy Secondary School, a chemistry-oriented class. He also won first prize at the district level and second prize at the city level in chemistry in the 2024 Hanoi Excellent Student Competition.

Because he focused on taking the gifted student exam and then studying for the 10th grade entrance exam, Phong did not have much time to prepare for the entrance exam to the Natural Science Specialized School. The male student shared that since the beginning of April, he has been focusing on studying under the guidance of his teacher.

As a result, not only did Phong get the maximum score in his specialized subject, he also got an outstandingly high score in the conditional math test, even though it was a challenging test for most candidates applying to the school.

Asked about his secret to studying, Phong said he tried to do many exercises and remember his mistakes when his teacher corrected them.

"Usually every night I spend 1-2 hours doing exercises and 30-45 minutes reviewing theory. When teachers correct my work, I will remember, correct my mistakes and redo my work to make it more perfect. Doing many exercises also helps me improve my test-taking speed," Phong shared.

This is also the reason why male students only took 2/3 of the exam time, equivalent to 100 minutes.

Phong became familiar with chemistry in elementary school through experimental videos on youtube related to potassium permanganate, soap, and hydrogen peroxide.

Fascinated by reactions, Phong learned about chemical elements and experimented with things available in the kitchen such as vinegar and baking soda. He also asked his mother to buy him a periodic table and stick it in his desk drawer like a treasure.

In grade 8, Phong took the entrance exam to enter the school's chemistry-oriented class and was accepted. From this point on, he studied chemistry in depth.

Besides the Natural Science specialized school, Phong tried his hand at two other specialized schools: Pedagogy specialized school and Ams specialized school. He is anxiously waiting for the results of these two schools.

In the recent 10th grade exam, the valedictorian of the Natural Science major was a bit worried about the literature subject because he couldn't do the test as well as he wanted.

When asked about the social argument in the literature exam, if he could rewrite it, Phong shared: "I think "we do not live to meet other people's expectations" is not necessarily a selfish way of life. Because each person should not just do everything according to other people's expectations but should listen to their own wishes and dreams.

In studying as well as everything in life, I often listen to my parents' advice and guidance but will make my own decisions. My parents also respect my point of view.

If my parents' expectations are not my own, I will discuss it with them so they can understand me better and find common ground from both sides."

Phong's future goal is to pursue medicine and pharmacy and study abroad in this field at a higher level.
