Nguyen Van Nhat, author of the Project on Devices to Support Monitoring and Healthcare for the Elderly Using AI Technology.

"The project of the device to support monitoring and taking care of the health of the elderly using AI technology is a product that I have cherished for 9 months. This project was formed from the actual needs when our country is entering the stage of population aging. And I encountered in life, there are many elderly people who have to live alone when their children work far away, even my grandfather is the same" - Nguyen Van Nhat shared.

The journey of turning ideas into products for the 11th grade male student was a series of days of forgetting to eat and sleep, because it went through many steps, collecting information, researching, programming 3D design... Although facing many difficulties in accessing sources of documents, equipment, and techniques, Nhat always tried to explore and research. He also sought every opportunity to learn, from participating in online courses to asking for help from teachers and friends.

Products: Equipment to support monitoring and health care for the elderly using AI technology.

With this year's theme, Japan focused on applying artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor and care for the health of the elderly. Every day, the device monitors health indicators and warns of early signs of abnormalities, sending instant notifications via email, default phone number to relatives or doctors. In addition, the product also integrates exercise games, uses AI cameras to monitor and encourage exercise for the elderly, improving physical health. This is a project that contributes to improving the quality of life for the elderly.

Previously, in January 2025, Nhat's project won first prize in the provincial competition. However, in order to confidently participate in a larger knowledge arena - the national competition, he received encouragement and comments from the professional advisory board, which are teachers in the industry. Nhat had 3 more months to complete the product. After sleepless nights of research, Nhat did not disappoint the hopes and expectations of the teachers because the product has become more complete with new features such as: facial recognition of people being monitored, health care in a group of people; memory support for people with dementia...

Mr. Le Ngoc Quan always accompanies his students throughout the journey.

Despite his efforts, Nhat still had to stay up all night the night before entering the final round to fix errors in his product. His knowledge, passion and effort, the practical application of the project, and the experience from the previous competition were the factors that helped Nhat overcome the questions of the 6 judges to bring home the proud second national prize. This is also the only project from Ha Tinh to win a prize at the 2025 Science and Technology Research Competition for High School Students.

Mr. Le Ngoc Quan - Nhat's instructor said: "I really admire and am proud of Nhat's efforts to conquer knowledge and passion for science . He has a deep understanding of information technology and artificial intelligence, so during the research and product completion process, he often takes on too much work. At those times, I only encourage him and give him suggestions, directions, advice and reminders. We also created conditions for him to use his own computer at school so that he can more conveniently research ideas and complete products."

Participating in the Science and Technology Research Competition for high school students is an opportunity for Nguyen Van Nhat to connect with people with the same passion and learn new knowledge.

It is known that since his junior high school years, Nhat has started researching scientific issues in life, especially the application of digital technology . With the support, encouragement, and facilitation of his father, who is a soldier, and his mother, who is a teacher, Nhat was motivated to create many creative products from his passion and research. These include the remote control system for fire trucks, which won second prize at the district level in grade 7; the COVID-19 anti-epidemic robot, which won first prize at the district level and third prize at the provincial level in grade 8; and the learning monitoring support device project, which won first prize at the provincial level and fourth prize at the national level in grade 10.

Nguyen Van Nhat is still continuing to make efforts in his studies to aim for new goals in the future.

Sharing about his future plans, Nhat said: "I dream of becoming an IT engineer or studying abroad to learn more knowledge and gain more experience to contribute to the development of my homeland and country."

The passion and love for exploring science and technology has helped the 11th grader overcome all obstacles to achieve his first successes. The national second prize is not only a worthy reward for Nhat's efforts but also a message that contributes to encouraging the creative movement, sowing a passion for scientific research for students in mountainous areas.

In order to develop students' abilities, in addition to innovating teaching methods and applying knowledge to solve practical problems, in recent times, the school has created favorable conditions for students to develop creative ideas. Along with that, the organization of STEM festivals and science and technology innovation competitions has attracted a large number of students from the whole school to participate. From there, we select good ideas, organize research plans and assign teachers to monitor and guide. This is also a solution to motivate the movement of science and technology innovation, the movement of emulation to teach well and learn well.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh - Vice Principal of Huong Khe High School.
