Leverage to increase productivity and quality

HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Dong Ninh Hoa Ward) currently has 3,127 employees. In addition to ensuring full benefits and policies according to legal regulations, over the years, the company has always focused on supporting training to improve skills and expertise for employees. Most newly recruited employees are trained by the company before being assigned to a job position. Thanks to that, 100% of the unit's workers are assessed to have high skills. Worker Le Van Lai shared: “After more than 10 years working here, I have noticed that the company is very interested in training to improve the skills of its employees. In addition to opening classes at the unit, the company also sends us abroad to study; sends experts and good engineers to directly monitor, supervise and guide us in professional working skills, achieving the highest quality. From there, the company has trained me to become a highly skilled welder, contributing to the creation of ships weighing tens and hundreds of thousands of tons.”

Leaders of the Department of Home Affairs and HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. encouraged workers to participate in the skilled worker competition.
Leaders of the Department of Home Affairs and HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. encouraged workers to participate in the skilled worker competition.

Every year, the company organizes a competition for skilled workers in all fields of hull welding, hull assembly, pipe welding, pipe assembly, and painting. Through the competition, the unit has selected and awarded 15 excellent workers with cash prizes and domestic and international tours. It is also an opportunity for the company to honor the "golden hands" - symbols of professional pride, learning spirit and international aspirations of shipbuilders. Mr. Le Van Toan - Deputy General Director, Chairman of the Trade Union of HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. said: "To implement the development strategy to become a leading international shipbuilding unit, investing in improving the skills of employees is a key factor of the unit. From 2023 to now, the company and the trade union have spent more than 1.6 billion VND to organize educational activities, training to improve skills for workers, soft skills for engineers, employees and management team; organize competitions for skilled workers, English competitions and send more than 2,200 people to study abroad".

Realizing the changes in market demand and increasingly high technical requirements, Hoang Thanh Do Luong Production and Investment Joint Stock Company (Du Long Industrial Park, Thuan Bac Commune) continuously organizes intensive training courses on sewing techniques, line management and application of new machinery and technology for more than 400 workers. Most of the recruited workers are retrained, tested and evaluated by the company before being assigned to the production line. All training costs are 100% supported by the company; at the same time, during the apprenticeship, workers still enjoy full benefits and policies. Therefore, labor productivity at the unit has continuously increased, the rate of product defects has significantly decreased. Mr. Vu Van Dung - Director of the Company shared: "We consider training as a long-term investment, a lever to increase productivity and product quality. When workers are skilled, they work more effectively, have better income and stay with the company for a long time".

Support businesses to improve workers' skills

One of the biggest benefits of focusing on training is retaining employees. Surveys from relevant sectors show that today's employees are not only interested in salary, bonuses, and benefits, but also in opportunities to learn and develop themselves. Businesses understand this and invest in internal training systems, invite experts to teach, or partner with vocational schools and universities to provide appropriate training programs.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training and vocational training institutions in the province have actively implemented policies to support vocational training for workers working in small and medium-sized enterprises. Every year, the Department of Education and Training conducts a survey on the training support needs of enterprises, on that basis, develops plans, directs and guides vocational training institutions to promote propaganda, develops training manuals and implements policies to support training to improve skills for workers; classifies types of enterprises to connect, open training classes and foster training suitable to the needs. According to the leaders of the Department of Education and Training, with policies to support training, improve skills and expertise for workers working in enterprises, it is very necessary and effective. Through training, it helps workers update new knowledge, meet the production and business needs of enterprises; at the same time helps to improve the quantity and quality of products and increase income. The effective implementation of policies to support vocational training and skill improvement for workers by the Party, State and locality has contributed to raising the rate of trained workers in the province to 80.5%; of which, workers with degrees and certificates reached 32.7%.

In the context of an increasingly demanding market, vocational training is no longer an option, but a must if businesses want to survive and develop. Investing in human resources is a smart and sustainable move for pioneering businesses. At the same time, the Party, the State and localities always accompany and support businesses in vocational training and labor quality improvement. Accordingly, in the coming time, the whole province will continue to promote vocational training support policies; prioritize training of workers in key and spearhead industries of the province. Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of human resources for businesses and localities.
