In the presence of Ms. Helga Margarete Barth, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam, the two sides marked a turning point for the development of high-speed rail in Vietnam.

As a subsidiary of Siemens AG (Germany), Siemens Mobility is not only a world- leading railway technology company with over 175 years of experience, but also a provider of original technology, laying the foundation for many modern high-speed rail systems around the world, including the US, Russia, and China.

This company has come to Hanoi , and together with VinSpeed, is contributing to changing the face of transportation in Vietnam.

Advanced technology conquered Europe, Russia, America, and beyond…

Siemens Mobility owns many large-scale projects in the high-speed rail sector. Siemens Mobility is one of the manufacturers involved in the research and development of the InterCity Express (ICE) high-speed train. Currently, the company has a revenue of €12.4 billion and approximately 43,400 employees worldwide.

According to the agreement with VinSpeed, Siemens Mobility will bring to Vietnam the Velaro Novo – the newest and most modern high-speed train product line, also used in high-speed rail networks in many developed countries such as Belgium, France, the UK, the Netherlands, China, Russia, Türkiye, etc.

The Velaro Novo is being tested in Germany on Deutsche Bahn's ICE-S train, which integrates hundreds of sensors to collect real-time data, providing a basis for optimizing operation and maintenance based on real-world conditions.

The train is designed with a design speed of over 350 km/h, increasing connectivity between major cities, expanding the labor market, and boosting economic development along new transport corridors.

In the US, Siemens Mobility is contributing to the realization of the high-speed rail vision with the American Pioneer 220 train, the US version of the Velaro Novo. This is also the latest technology that Siemens Mobility will provide to VinSpeed in the near future.

Besides speed, the American Pioneer 220 is positioned as an economical and sustainable solution for American high-speed rail. Thanks to a weight reduction of approximately 15% compared to previous generations, equivalent to more than 70 tons, along with advanced carriage manufacturing and welding technologies, the train helps reduce investment costs by about 20% and maintenance costs by up to 30%.

Russian Railways (RZD) ordered eight Velaro RUS trains from Siemens, and subsequently purchased eight more in 2011 to serve the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed line.

Since 2009, high-speed trains developed by Siemens have connected Moscow with Saint Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod, operating well in extreme weather conditions from -40 to 40 degrees Celsius, shortening the Moscow-Saint Petersburg journey by about an hour compared to previous trains.

In Spain, between 2001 and 2005, Renfe (the Spanish railway operator) ordered a total of 26 Siemens Velaro E trains. This was a version of the Velaro specifically designed for Spain, with an operating speed of 350 km/h.

Thanks to the new system, the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed train line (621km long) has reduced travel time between Spain's two largest cities to under 2.5 hours.

Behind the handshake between Siemens and VinSpeed

From Europe and Russia to the United States, Siemens Mobility has laid the foundation for many high-speed rail systems around the world.

Siemens Mobility has now partnered with VinSpeed – a completely new name in Vietnam. Mr. Michael Peter, Global CEO of Siemens Mobility GmbH, was present in Hanoi to sign the agreement in the presence of Ms. Helga Margarete Barth, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam.

According to Michael Peter, Global CEO of Siemens Mobility GmbH, the signing ceremony for the strategic cooperation agreement is "all-inclusive," encompassing the provision of modern railway infrastructure technology and advanced trains, aiming to create the highest standards for Vietnam's high-speed rail system.

"Together with VinSpeed, we aspire to make Vietnam a pioneering nation in the field of high-speed rail," said Michael Peter at the signing ceremony.

The selection of VinSpeed is one of Siemens Mobility's strategic moves to accelerate development in Asia.

This collaboration helps lay the foundation for high-speed rail technology in Vietnam, providing new impetus for growth and boosting economic and tourism development nationwide.
