The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assesses that conditions are met for the groundbreaking ceremony on December 19th.

To commemorate National Resistance Day and to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vinspeed High-Speed ​​Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the project on December 19, 2025. The event will take place in Can Gio commune, Ho Chi Minh City.

Vinspeed Company has requested the Ministry of Construction and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to consider including the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway project in the list of projects commemorating the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam; and to support Vinspeed Company in implementing related tasks.

Previously, in a submission to the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City regarding the list of groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies for large-scale projects and works to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Party, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City assessed that the Ben Thanh - Can Gio metro project met the conditions to hold the groundbreaking ceremony on December 19th.

The investment policy has been approved.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on December 5th, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision approving the investment policy and simultaneously approving Vinspeed High-Speed ​​Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company as the investor to implement the Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway project.

The project involves the construction of a double-track railway with a gauge of 1,435mm, a main route length of over 54km, a design speed of 350km/h, and an axle load of 17 tons/axle.

The station project includes 2 stations in phase 1, comprising Ben Thanh and Can Gio stations, and 4 stations in phase 2 (when needed), including Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, and Binh Khanh stations; 1 depot is planned to be located in Can Gio commune, and 1 operational control center (OCC) is also planned to be located in Can Gio commune.

The preliminary total investment is approximately 102,430 billion VND (excluding approximately 12,784 billion VND for land clearance costs, which are covered by the state budget).

The basic construction progress and commissioning or operational exploitation of the project is 30 months from the date the competent authority decides to allocate the land, ensuring operational exploitation in 2028 (excluding the 4 stations in phase 2).

The Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway project starts at 23 September Park (Ben Thanh ward) and ends at a 39-hectare plot of land adjacent to the Can Gio coastal tourism urban area project (Can Gio commune).

The basic route of the project, according to the plan, starts at Km0+00 within the September 23rd Park, runs along the park's land parallel to Le Lai Street, then to Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, before turning to run along Ky Con Street and crossing the Ben Nghe Canal.

After crossing the Ben Nghe canal, the route turns northeast onto Hoang Dieu Street, then follows Hoang Dieu Street to the intersection with Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, turning southeast to closely follow the corridor of Doan Nhu Hai Street.

The route runs straight through the Nha Rong port area to near the Tan Thuan 2 bridge, then turns southeast onto Nguyen Van Linh road, passing the intersection with Nguyen Thi Thap road to Tan My ward.

The route continues south, passing the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh Street and Phu My Bridge to Nguyen Luong Bang Street. The route then turns southeast, passing between Nguyen Luong Bang Street, Road 15B, and Road D1 to the Rach Dia River overpass at Km9+800, entering Nha Be commune.

After passing through Nha Be commune, the route turns southeast through the Van Phat Hung resettlement area, Phu Xuan residential area, crosses the Soai Rap river to Binh Khanh commune, and runs towards Can Gio station.
