The patient, Ms. NTN (26 years old, residing in Can Gio), had undergone three previous cesarean sections. More than two weeks prior, she tested positive for pregnancy. Upon arriving at the hospital, she was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy and received medical treatment. However, in the early morning of December 9th, she experienced severe abdominal pain and increasing discomfort, prompting her to immediately go to Tu Du Hospital, Branch 2, near her home at 2 AM.
In the emergency department, doctors noted signs of peritoneal reaction, and an ultrasound revealed an ectopic pregnancy on the left side accompanied by intra-abdominal bleeding. This was a dangerous situation requiring immediate emergency surgery to avoid serious complications and life-threatening conditions. After consultation, the doctors concluded that the ectopic pregnancy had ruptured and medical treatment had failed, so they quickly initiated emergency surgery.
The pregnant woman was transferred to the operating room, which was fully equipped with laparoscopic surgery equipment, an anesthesia and resuscitation system, and an on-site medical team. The surgery began at 8:00 AM and lasted over an hour. The doctors removed the ruptured ectopic pregnancy, controlled the bleeding, and cleaned the abdominal cavity, ensuring maximum safety for the patient. Eight hours after the surgery, Ms. N. was conscious, no longer experiencing abdominal pain, able to eat and drink lightly, and her vital signs were stable.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , the successful surgery demonstrates the gynecological emergency management capabilities of Tu Du Hospital, Branch 2. Providing residents of Can Gio with access to specialized emergency services locally helps minimize risks and shorten intervention time compared to transferring patients to the city center.
