According to NASA, the image above shows the star-forming region located closest to Earth in the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex at a distance of nearly 390 light-years, allowing for close-up shots of the area. This is an area of about 50 newly formed stars with masses equal to or smaller than the Sun.

"Webb's image of Rho Ophiuchi allows us to see a very short stage in the life of a star in great detail," said Klaus Pontoppidan, a scientist involved in Webb's research project at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Maryland. "Our Sun went through such a stage a long time ago, and now we have the technology to see the beginning of another star's story."
Sharing the same view on the above issue, NASA director Bill Nelson said: "In just one year, the James Webb telescope has changed the way humanity views the universe, for the first time people can closely observe dust clouds and see light from distant corners of the universe. Each new image is a new discovery , encouraging and supporting scientists around the world to ask and answer questions they could never have dreamed of."
