According to Ms. Tran Bao Ngoc, Director of the Department of Economic Diplomacy , Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Economic Report 2025 is one of the specific results, demonstrating the close and diverse cooperation between Vietnam and OECD.
The report is a useful research document in summarizing and evaluating the implementation of the Socio-Economic Development Plan for the 2021-2025 period and continuing to implement the Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the 2021-2030 period. Ms. Tran Bao Ngoc affirmed that Vietnam is proud to have achieved many outstanding achievements over the past 80 years, especially since the implementation of the renovation process in 1986.
From an economy that relied mainly on agriculture, had very limited resources and very low income, Vietnam has risen to become one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with a gross domestic product (GDP) increasing nearly 100 times, and per capita income increasing from less than 100 USD/year to nearly 5,000 USD/year. Vietnam is currently in the top 20 countries in the world in terms of international trade scale, the top 20 countries attracting the most foreign direct investment (FDI) and the top 10 countries receiving the largest remittances.
"These achievements demonstrate the spirit of innovation, determination and solidarity of the Vietnamese people. However, we are also aware that to maintain and accelerate this development momentum, Vietnam needs to enter a new era, towards a sustainable, inclusive and high-tech economy," Ms. Tran Bao Ngoc said at the Vietnam Economic Report 2025 Workshop held on the afternoon of June 20 in Hanoi, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and OECD.

In his congratulatory message to the conference, OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements with rapid economic growth, deep integration into the global economy, and important results in hunger eradication and poverty reduction. "The publication of the Vietnam Economic Report 2025 shows Vietnam's remarkable economic progress in recent decades," emphasized the OECD Secretary General. Mr. Mathias Cormann affirmed that OECD supports and will continue to support Vietnam to achieve high growth targets in the coming time.
For his part, Mr. Alvaro Pereira, Chief Economist of the OECD, thanked the Vietnamese Government for its support in the implementation of the Vietnam Economic Report 2025. Mr. Alvaro Pereira expressed his joy that every time he visits Vietnam, he clearly feels the aspiration and growth momentum of the Southeast Asian country - something that is "hard to see elsewhere". "I have full confidence that Vietnam will achieve its goal of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045 and it would not be surprising if Vietnam achieves this goal sooner. I just want to emphasize that continuing reforms is the most important thing. That way, Vietnam can be even more successful", Mr. Alvaro Pereira said at the workshop.
