That is the reason why Nestlé Vietnam has organized many practical programs and activities to accompany and share with the business community, helping to improve competitiveness and confidently reach out to the world .
Mr. Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, Co-Chairman of the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD), Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), affirmed this when sharing with the press at the ceremony to honor 100 Sustainable Enterprises in Vietnam (CSI), held in Hanoi on the evening of November 29.
Mr. Binu Jacob speaks at the CSI 2024 announcement ceremony
The key to achieving Net Zero 2050
According to VBCSD-VCCI, CSI 2024 attracted 500 enterprises to submit applications. Notably, the rate of domestic enterprises and enterprises participating in CSI for the first time has increased sharply compared to the past 3 years, respectively 62% and 35%, showing that Vietnamese enterprises are increasingly interested in sustainable development (SD).
2024 marks the 9th year of CSI-100 and the 7th year that Nestlé Vietnam has accompanied this event. In 2024, Nestlé Vietnam will join CSI-100 with a new role, which is to accompany, support and lead businesses with sustainable development goals and commitments by sharing experiences and promoting cooperation through specific programs and initiatives, especially programs targeting small and medium enterprises.
The sharing program on the topic: Carbon credit offset exchange mechanism in Vietnam and the roadmap towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 (Net Zero 2050) organized by Nestlé Vietnam in collaboration with VBCSD on the morning of November 29 for CSI-100 member enterprises is such an initiative.
Seminar on carbon credit offset exchange mechanism proposed by Nestlé Vietnam attracts the attention of many businesses
This is also the first forum to update summary information on the results of the APEC 2024 summit, the COP29 conference and Vietnam's latest policies to guide and support businesses in building and implementing appropriate action programs to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Sharing at the program, Mr. Binu Jacob emphasized that Vietnam is committed to reducing GHG emissions and striving to achieve Net Zero by 2050. Among the many solutions that the Government and the business community are implementing, developing a carbon market is one of the important keys to help Vietnam effectively respond to climate change, contributing to the implementation of Net Zero 2050.
According to the General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, the Government's Net Zero 2050 commitment requires all businesses and corporations operating in Vietnam to join hands in implementing it. But in reality, most Vietnamese businesses lack in-depth knowledge as well as a clear direction like Nestlé Vietnam has.
Inspiring and supporting businesses towards a green future
Mr. Binu Jacob's sharing is not just empty words, because throughout 2024, Nestlé Vietnam will coordinate with partners to organize many training programs, sharing experiences with the business community, especially units in the company's supply chain, to count, measure and reduce GHG emissions. These activities demonstrate Nestlé's commitment to supporting businesses to practice sustainable development, improve competitiveness, and reach out to world markets.
At the CSI 2024 announcement ceremony, Nestlé introduced sustainable development initiatives such as the transition to sustainable agriculture, regenerative agriculture, and circular economy in production to reduce GHG emissions throughout the supply chain. In addition, the company introduced the initiative of applying VR360 virtual reality technology to enhance the experience for visitors to the booth at the event.
Contributing to Vietnam's sustainable development goals, Nestlé Vietnam has achieved many achievements in 5 areas: agriculture, water resource management, promoting circular economy, health and nutrition, encouraging healthy lifestyles and promoting women's empowerment.
For example, in agriculture, through the NESCAFÉ Plan, Nestlé supports more than 21,000 coffee farming households to switch to regenerative agriculture, helping to reduce 20% of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and save 40 - 60% of irrigation water.
Nestlé is helping 21,000 coffee-growing households reduce emissions.
In addition, Nestlé Vietnam has applied many initiatives to save water usage in all factories. Over the past 3 years, Nestlé has been among the few enterprises in Vietnam to receive the Water Stewardship Organization's certification for water saving solutions. Currently, Nestlé Vietnam is 100% water neutral, meaning it returns and recycles 100% of the water used. To promote a circular economy with a commitment to developing sustainable packaging, nearly 95% of Nestlé's packaging in Vietnam has been designed to be recyclable.
In an effort to promote women's empowerment, Nestlé Vietnam cooperates with the Vietnam Women's Union to organize a training program for 1.7 million rural women to improve their knowledge, work skills, family health care, and create sustainable livelihoods...
