Russia announced that it had neutralized nine unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), of which five were shot down, when they attacked the town of Dzhankoi on the Crimean peninsula.
In a Telegram post on June 4, Crimean Governor Sergey Aksyonov said there were no casualties but that some windows were damaged. Russia thwarted the raids by shooting down five drones and jamming the radio signals, causing four of them to miss their targets.

He added that an unexploded UAV was found near a residential house, forcing the evacuation of about 50 people in the area. However, Governor Aksyonov did not name who was responsible for the attacks.
Russia has an air base near Dzhankoi. Ukrainian officials have long claimed that the town of Dzhankoi and the surrounding area have been turned into Russia's largest military base in Crimea.
Earlier last month, Russian officials in Crimea said air defenses had successfully intercepted two Ukrainian Grom-2 ballistic missiles aimed at the peninsula. Crimean authorities said in April they had thwarted a similar attack on the eastern town of Feodosiya. Ukraine has denied responsibility for either incident.

Observers say Ukraine is stepping up attacks on infrastructure and logistics networks deep inside Russian territory to wear down enemy forces in preparation for a spring counteroffensive.
One of the rare times the Ukrainian military admitted to attacking Russian military logistics lines was the explosion at an oil depot in Kozacha Bay, outside the city of Sevastopol on the Crimean peninsula on the morning of April 29. Natalia Humeniuk, spokeswoman for Ukraine's Southern Command, said this was part of the operation to prepare for a counterattack.
