Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Tang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City, said: Immediately after implementing the merger, the Department of Education and Training quickly arranged a stable workplace; proactively arranged personnel, arranged and deployed tasks. Especially, it ensured the smooth, effective and efficient settlement of administrative procedures without interruption when arranging administrative units and implementing the 2-level local government model.
The leaders of the Department of Education and Training held a meeting to agree on the assignment of tasks in charge of the field; implemented the process of developing a plan to arrange and assign civil servants and employees when implementing the organizational arrangement.

According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training, the whole city has 1,232 schools; of which 382 are preschools and kindergartens (330 public schools, 52 non-public schools) with 121,905 children.
Generaleducation: 850 schools; of which, primary school: 506 schools (501 public schools, 5 non-public schools) with 257,755 students. Secondary school: 241 schools (239 public schools, 2 non-public schools) with 195,357 students. High school and multi-level general schools: 103 schools (92 public schools, 11 non-public schools) with 90,800 students.
In order to help civil servants and public employees of departments and branches feel secure in their work, the Department of Education and Training has guided and supported the transfer of schools and enrollment of nearly 600 preschool children and students of all levels in a convenient, in accordance with regulations, and suitable for each type of school.
Regarding personnel work, after the merger, the number of civil servant positions assigned to the Department of Education and Training after the arrangement and merger is 161 positions (including 146 official positions and 15 positions waiting for recruitment). The number of employees assigned to the Education and Training sector is 42,076, of which 41,388 are official positions and 688 are waiting for recruitment.
Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Nguyen Phuc Tang added: According to the teacher quota, in the 2024-2025 school year, the number of teachers lacking compared to the quota is 2,519. Of which, preschool level lacks 1,026 teachers; primary school lacks 610 teachers; secondary school lacks 438 teachers; high school lacks 445 teachers.
According to the assigned staffing, in the 2024-2025 school year, the number of teachers lacking compared to the assigned staffing is 1,993 teachers. Of which, preschool level lacks 634 teachers; primary school lacks 706 teachers; secondary school lacks 380 teachers; high school lacks 273 teachers...
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, acknowledged the efforts of the city's education sector after the merger. Acknowledging the enthusiastic proposals and recommendations of the staff and teachers at the meeting, the city will synthesize and propose solutions as soon as possible.
In the coming time, the Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the Education sector to continue to pay attention to investing in facilities and equipment for teaching and learning. Determined to solve the shortage of teachers, ensure teaching and learning; especially teaching 2 sessions/day.
After the merger, the Department of Education and Training needs to pay attention to arranging staff; including nearly 600 students who follow their parents to Can Tho City to work, so they need to pay attention, take care of them, and create stable conditions.
The city’s education sector needs to prepare for the opening of the 2025-2026 school year; review and ensure conditions for facilities and human resources; funding for maintenance of school facilities; promote socialization of education; equip students with life skills and foreign language skills.

As of June 30, the whole city has 1,003/1,232 schools meeting national standards (rate of 81.41%). Of which, 301/382 preschool schools have met the standards, rate of 78.8%; 431/506 primary schools, rate of 85.18%; 202/241 secondary schools, rate of 83.82%; 69/103 high schools, rate of 67%.
