At the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related summits in Jakarta from September 4-7.
Early on the morning of September 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation leaving Hanoi to attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related summits in Jakarta from September 4-7.
At nearly 11:00 a.m. local time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, Indonesia, to begin activities at the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
Welcoming Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit were: Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno; Director of the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Indonesia Ta Van Thong; Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Mission to ASEAN Nguyen Hai Bang; officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia and the Vietnamese Mission to ASEAN.

Early afternoon of September 4 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and spoke at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ASEAN BIS) 2023.
ASEAN BIS is the largest annual business-related forum in Southeast Asia, held within the framework of the ASEAN Summit, with the participation of heads of state from ASEAN countries, partner countries, ministers, senior officials, policy makers and major business leaders from ASEAN and the world.
Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the multipolar world situation is an inevitable trend, strategic competition between major countries is increasingly fierce, and the trend of fragmentation and gathering of forces is increasingly evident.
In order for ASEAN to continue to promote its role and position as well as take advantage of and seize opportunities from the current world order, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that ASEAN needs to consolidate and strengthen internal solidarity; maintain ASEAN's common principles, stances and viewpoints; and maintain strategic balance in relations between ASEAN and its partners.
According to the proposal of the head of the Vietnamese Government, ASEAN needs to develop in a direction that does not sacrifice fairness, social progress and environmental protection in exchange for mere economic growth; firmly adhere to the people-centered approach in the process of building the ASEAN community, taking the people as the center, subject, goal and driving force of development.
To further promote the role of enterprises in promoting growth and creating new breakthroughs for ASEAN, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that governments and enterprises of countries need to cooperate increasingly closely, effectively and substantially.
In the afternoon of September 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva; thanked the IMF and the Managing Director personally for actively supporting Vietnam in consulting, policy making, helping to stabilize the macro-economy and finance - currency, and economic recovery.
To overcome current difficulties and challenges, the Prime Minister and the CEO agreed that comprehensive solutions are needed in both politics and economics, ensuring a peaceful and stable environment; emphasizing the importance of strengthening international solidarity, promoting multilateralism and continuing to promote international integration.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited CEO Kristalina Georgieva to visit Vietnam soon and Ms. Kristalina Georgieva happily accepted the invitation.
Late in the afternoon of September 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The two leaders highly appreciated the positive developments in the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership since their meeting in May 2023 in Labuan Bajo.
The two sides agreed to actively promote the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation mechanisms and coordinate to effectively implement signed agreements and treaties, including bringing signed documents on maritime cooperation into effect soon and implementing them in practice, creating momentum to bring the Strategic Partnership to a new level, towards a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.
President Widodo welcomed Vietnamese enterprises, including Vinfast, to invest in Indonesia, promote cooperation in developing renewable energy and electric vehicle ecosystems; suggested that the two countries strengthen maritime cooperation, sustainable fisheries cooperation and soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding on fisheries cooperation.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two leaders reaffirmed their support for maintaining solidarity and ASEAN's agreed principles on the East Sea issue, especially ASEAN and China's early achievement of an effective and efficient COC in accordance with international law and the 1982 UNCLOS.
Immediately afterwards, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the ceremony to announce the opening of the first direct flight route from Hanoi (Vietnam) to Jakarta (Indonesia) of Vietjet Air. Hanoi-Jakarta is Vietjet's fourth direct flight route to the island nation of Indonesia.
With 4 flights per week between Hanoi and Jakarta using modern aircraft, with only 4.5 hours of flight time per leg, Vietjet will increase the total number of flights between Vietnam and Indonesia to 92 flights per week from this December. Vietjet aims to transport 1 million passengers per year between Indonesia and Vietnam, contributing to the development of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia, becoming a convenient cultural and economic exchange bridge for the two countries and peoples.
On the evening of September 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received leaders of major Indonesian corporations including Ciputra, Traveloka and Modena.
Business leaders expressed their belief that the successful development of the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership will be a solid foundation for businesses of the two countries to expand investment cooperation; they assessed Vietnam as a very potential and attractive market for businesses to invest, trade and consume quality goods and products.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated the successful investment activities of enterprises in Vietnam; affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always listens to and grasps difficulties and obstacles to remove, handle and create the most favorable conditions for investors to operate effectively, sustainably, preserve capital and make profits, on the basis of harmonizing interests and sharing risks among parties, the success of investors is the success of Vietnam.
It is expected that tomorrow, September 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the opening ceremony of the 43rd ASEAN Summit; the plenary session of the 43rd ASEAN Summit; the opening of the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum; the retreat session of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and have bilateral meetings and working sessions...
