Da Nang launches 1,800 billion VND Fab-Lab project to develop semiconductor technology

(NLDO) - The Fab-Lab project is built at Danang Software Park No. 2. This is a pioneering semiconductor packaging technology laboratory model in Vietnam.

On July 28, Da Nang City held the launching ceremony of the Project of Laboratory for Advanced Packaging Technology Production (Fab-Lab) at the Concentrated Information Technology Park - Da Nang Software Park No. 2.

With a total investment of VND 1,800 billion, Fab-Lab is a pioneer model in Vietnam in the field of semiconductor packaging technology. The project concretizes Resolution 57 of the Politburo and the strategy for developing Vietnam's semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050 according to Decision 1018 of the Prime Minister.

Fab-Lab is built on a 2,288 m² land area with a total floor area of over 5,700 m², expected to be completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The project consists of two main areas: a lab for research on advanced packaging technologies such as Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging (FOWLP), 2.5D/3D IC, Silicon Interposer and Silicon-Bridge; a Fab room for experimental production on real wafers, equipped with modern systems such as lithography, wafer bonding and international standard measuring and testing equipment.

Once operational, Fab-Lab is expected to have a design capacity of 10 million products per year, aiming to serve both domestic and international markets.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung highly appreciated Da Nang's pioneering spirit in developing the semiconductor sector. He said that the project has special significance in the context of Vietnam accelerating the implementation of major policies on the semiconductor industry and emphasized the need to participate more deeply in the global value chain.

"Fab-Lab is not only a place to develop advanced packaging technology, but also a cradle to train high-quality engineers and experts - a key resource for the national semiconductor industry" - Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.

He also affirmed that the Ministry of Science and Technology will continue to accompany Da Nang City and the business community in building mechanisms, preferential policies and developing the semiconductor industrial ecosystem in the Central region.

Immediately after the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung and the delegation visited the FPT High-Tech and Semiconductor Research & Development Center and the microchip design training class at Da Nang Software Park No. 2.
