On October 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health held a preliminary ceremony to review the rotation program of specialist doctors to the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center. Attending the ceremony was comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, with the view of not leaving anyone behind, even in the farthest places, the program of rotating specialist doctors to the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center was implemented from September 3.
In the first phase, 7 excellent and highly skilled doctors from Hung Vuong Hospital, Binh Dan Hospital, Children's Hospital 1, Orthopedic Trauma Hospital, Gia Dinh People's Hospital, and Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital volunteered to join the reinforcement.
After one month of implementation, the program has achieved remarkable results in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, and health care for people in remote islands. According to Dr. Le Cong Tho, Director of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the number of outpatients here has increased from 60 visits/day to 150-200 visits/day, the number of inpatients has increased, and the number of referrals to the mainland has significantly decreased.
Through the program, many new techniques were deployed for the first time in Con Dao. Doctors actively transferred techniques and provided guidance to doctors at the center, helping to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment. Thanks to that, people were treated locally without having to be transferred to higher levels.
Returning after 1 month of working in the medical field in Con Dao, Dr. Huynh Giang Chau, Hung Vuong Hospital, shared that this was a valuable experience when he and his colleagues were able to contribute, bringing their skills and hearts as doctors to serve the soldiers and people of Con Dao.
Overcoming the initial days of confusion and difficulties in facilities, the doctors examined and treated more than 2,600 patients, successfully performing surgery on many complicated and serious cases.
Each successful treatment is a joy because local people have access to high quality medical care without having to cross the sea to the mainland.
“We thank the doctors and medical staff of the Con Dao Special Zone Medical Center for always being steadfast and keeping the flame of the profession of protecting the sea. And most of all, we would like to thank the people of Con Dao for their trust, which is a priceless reward for us,” Dr. Huynh Giang Chau said with tears in his eyes.
Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc acknowledged and highly appreciated the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health for quickly making recommendations and solutions to improve the quality of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.
He was moved by the efforts and dedication of the doctors - who have successfully treated and rescued many difficult cases, leaving deep impressions on the people of the sacred island region of the Fatherland.
"The program of rotating specialist doctors to Con Dao has initially achieved practical results: people receive quality health care and medical examination and treatment; it is the concretization of Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthrough solutions in protecting, caring for and improving people's health," Comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc emphasized.

He suggested that the Department of Health coordinate with media and press agencies to promote the results of the doctor rotation program in Con Dao, thereby strengthening the coordination mechanism and mobilizing resources to implement the program more fully, comprehensively and synchronously.
The results of the first phase of the doctor rotation program also clearly demonstrated the steps, roadmap, and solutions for the goal of strengthening, transferring, assisting, and expanding specialized healthcare in remote areas of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau in the past.
He requested the Department of Health to urgently research and issue regulations on strengthening line management, technology transfer and human resources in the above areas. These include full regulations on strengthening management forces and leading experts.
The Department of Health reviews the current standards and conditions of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center to propose and recommend to competent authorities to invest in and upgrade the quality of the center; focuses on training management human resources for the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center and the second facilities of specialized hospitals in the Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong areas (formerly) and has appropriate policies and mechanisms for each group of human resources. Determine the coordination mechanism with localities, related sectors, and sponsors to implement the doctor rotation program more comprehensively and effectively.
Also during this period, Hung Vuong Hospital, Binh Dan Hospital, Children's Hospital 1, Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital, Gia Dinh People's Hospital, Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, Con Dao Military and Civilian Medical Center and 7 doctors were awarded certificates of merit by the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment activities for Con Dao Military and Civilian Medical Center.
