On the morning of August 29, artist Bich Thuy organized a performance program to celebrate Vu Lan season of filial piety at Hoang Phap Pagoda, Hoc Mon, Ho Chi Minh City. On this occasion, she and the artists and singers of the Bac Son Love Songs Art Troupe debuted the cai luong play "Muc Lien looking for his mother" (author Hoang Dang Khoa) directed by her.

In the near future, the play will be performed for free at many stages during Vu Lan season to serve the audience.

Artist Bich Thuy confided that the story of "The Venerable Maudgalyayana saves his mother" is the origin of the annual Vu Lan festival of filial piety. She has cherished this play for a long time based on inspiration from many years of performing in Vu Lan art programs. This time, she was satisfied when performing for more than 3,000 audiences attending the Vu Lan festival at Hoang Phap pagoda and organizing performances at many different locations.

"When my parents were alive, they often taught me about the Vietnamese people's ethics of sharing and caring. Vu Lan is not only the season of showing gratitude to parents, but every day is also a season of showing gratitude. Over the past many years, my family and artists and singers of the Bac Son Tinh Ca Art Troupe have regularly organized singing and drama performances during Vu Lan season, and have also organized many charity trips, giving gifts to those in need," said artist Bich Thuy.

Artist Bich Thuy said that the play "Muc Lien looking for his mother" really created a great effect on the law of cause and effect, on filial piety with meaningfuleducational lessons, so when she performed it, she felt very happy. The audience gave her and the participating actors a lot of love because of their very sincere and emotional performance.

According to Buddhist records, Maudgalyayana's mother, Thanh De, committed many sins while she was alive and disrespected the Three Jewels, so she was sent to hell. Loving his mother, Maudgalyayana practiced and attained six supernatural powers, and went to hell to save his mother.

Mrs. Thanh De had great karma, so it was difficult for her to be forgiven. Maudgalyayana listened to Buddha and performed the "liberation of the island" ceremony on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month. From then on, her mother was saved.

The custom of worshiping on the occasion of the 15th day of the 7th lunar month has also become a custom of Vietnamese people to show gratitude to their parents for giving birth and raising them.
