The 2025 Con Dao Special Zone Radio Traditional Singing Contest organized by the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone (HCMC) aims to create a mass cultural and artistic movement, while preserving and promoting the heritage of Southern amateur music and traditional cultural values of the nation.
This is also an opportunity for those who love vọng cổ to exchange and learn from each other. In particular, the contest also contributes to promoting the image of Con Dao to domestic and international friends, attracting tourists to Con Dao.
Creating a mass art movement in Con Dao
Composer Truong Van Ut - a member of the jury, the person who came up with the idea and advised on organizing the contest - shared with Tuoi Tre Online that the contest received enthusiastic participation from young people in Con Dao and on the mainland.
Up to now, the organizing committee has received 100 registrations and finalized this number to ensure the best organization.
Among them, the contestants are mostly between 19 and 30 years old, the oldest contestant is 77 years old, the 2 youngest contestants are 12 years old (the organizing committee's regulation is that contestants must be 12 years old or older).
Contestants must go through 3 rounds: preliminary round, semi-final round and final ranking round.
The songs of vọng cổ or tân cổ giao duyên entered in the contest must praise the Party, beloved Uncle Ho, the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation, praise the love of the homeland, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese history, love between couples... especially encouraged to sing about Con Dao.

Memorize a song that can compete in the Radio Traditional Singing Contest.
Composer Truong Van Ut added that contestants only need one signature song to compete because they can sing one song for three rounds. Through this, the organizers encourage farmers and children to participate in the contest with a passion for traditional singing, expanding the singing movement.
Regarding the prize structure, the organizing committee awarded 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, 4 fourth prizes, and 6 consolation prizes. Of which, the first prize is worth 30 million VND.
In addition, the organizing committee also awarded additional prizes: Club, team, group with the most contestants; Oldest contestant; Youngest contestant; Contestant who sings best about Con Dao...
The final round of ranking and awarding is expected to take place on August 2 at the stage of the Center for Culture, Information, Sports and Tourism of Con Dao Special Zone.
Previously, the Radio Traditional Singing Contest was organized by the People's Committee of Con Dao district (old) in 2021 and 2023.
The young man from Kien Giang, Le Hoang Nghi, won second prize in the 2023 Radio Singing Contest, competed in the 2024 Golden Bell of Traditional Music and won the Golden Bell award.
