Artist Trang Thanh Xuan burst into tears when receiving support money from the audience

Recently, artists Phi Phung and Phuong Dung, representing the Ngu Long Du Ky group, visited actress Trang Thanh Xuan. Before that, the group shared about the 71-year-old artist's situation on social media, and some viewers asked to transfer money to support her.

"Overseas Vietnamese Hang sent her 50 USD, her son converted it into 1.3 million VND and a friend of the audience sent her 1 million VND," said artist Phuong Dung, adding that the once famous cai luong actress now lives alone and still sells lottery tickets. "Every time she runs out of money or goes to the hospital, she never calls for 'help', only when our group calls to ask and knows her situation, then she comes."

Artist Trang Thanh Xuan was born in 1953, real name is Le Thi Thanh Xuan. She has been in the Cai Luong profession since she was 14 years old, sang for the Thai Duong I, Thai Duong III and Huong Da Thao troupes, and sang with famous leading actors such as Minh Vuong, Vu Linh, Thanh Tuan...

When the cai luong profession declined, the female artist also suffered from heart disease. In 1986, she retired and struggled to make a living.

At the age of 71, the once famous actress has to stay in a rented house, selling lottery tickets every day to have money to pay off debts and pay for medicine: "Each time I take 20 lottery tickets, if I sell them all I take 20 more tickets, but if I take 100 tickets and can't sell them all, the agent won't let me return them, and I can't sell for too long."

Heart disease often recurs, so every month, she has to take medication to maintain it. “Some days my health is better, other days I feel very tired. I have had heart disease for more than 40 years. The other day, the doctor told me to go to the hospital, but I am alone and have no money, so I did not go to the hospital. I also do not have insurance, so I had to go to the doctor and buy medicine outside to get better,” the female artist confided.

Artist Trang Thanh Xuan was a famous cai luong actress of the 70s.

Previously, Trang Thanh Xuan lived with her younger sister. Now that her sister has passed away, her life has become even more difficult. She shared: “At first, I spent more than 1 million VND per month on medicine, but now that I am better, I only spend about 800,000 to 900,000 VND per month. The current rent is 2 million VND, plus electricity and water costs about 2.3 million VND.

Back then, there was Ms. Dao to help pay the rent, we ate whatever we had, but now she's gone. If I'm short on rent, my acquaintances lend me money to pay and buy medicine without interest."

The once famous actress still owes the people in the market some money because she previously borrowed it to pay for her sister's medical treatment.

She confided that she once wanted to apply to live in a nursing home for artists, but she was used to living outside and wanted to sell lottery tickets to pay off her debts, so she didn't go there. "I only sell until about 6pm, then go home because it's dark and I don't dare sell, afraid that people will cheat me. I've had varicose veins and osteoarthritis for more than 10 years, but I still try to sell lottery tickets."

Once a famous actress, admired by many, now she only wishes to sell 50 lottery tickets a day, to be debt-free and not have to worry about food.
