'Thuy Trang is a female player who won the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball at the age of 37. To achieve that glory, she had to go through the ups and downs of her career. She once shared with the media: “I fell during a training session at the Ho Chi Minh City club. At that time, I clearly heard the sound of my bones cracking. Ms. Luu Ngoc Mai had to wipe me down and then take me to the hospital for an X-ray. Looking at the X-ray, my bones were broken and overlapping each other.

It took a lot of convincing for my mother to agree to let me have surgery and continue playing football. Two months after the surgery, although the bone had not fully healed, I still practiced early to be in time for the National Championship. My shoulder had a screw sticking out, forcing me to have early surgery to remove it, but the steel was still in the bone. Two years later, I had a major surgery, the doctor removed the steel but had to add 6 more screws to fix the bone, gradually they became embedded deep into the muscle fibers.

When Thuy Trang won the 2017 SEA Games Gold Medal in women's football, her mother was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She had to use all her salary, bonuses and allowances to send home. In 2018, her father became seriously ill and has been bedridden ever since. There was a time when Thuy Trang wanted to give up football. However, her passion and determination helped her overcome adversity.

Or that is the story of athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen. She returned to training just 3 months after giving birth to her first child and won the 30th SEA Games Gold Medal. The story of an athlete defending the SEA Games Gold Medal just 13 months after giving birth is considered by coaches to be rare in the athletics community, not only in Southeast Asia but also in the world .

Nguyen Thi Huyen once shared: “Every day after practice, I call home to talk and see my child. Before competing, I also take out pictures and videos of my child from my phone to look at for more motivation.”

And among those examples, we cannot fail to mention Nguyen Thi Oanh. The “golden” girl of Vietnamese sports has left her mark with a determination that everyone must admire. The gold medals she brought home at the 32nd SEA Games are unprecedented achievements.

On June 30, the Department of Physical Training and Sports organized a seminar to share knowledge on gender equality in sports with the theme "Sports and women in the era of rising up, towards sustainable development".

Nguyen Thi Oanh gave an emotional speech: "I started being called up to the youth athletics team from 2012 until now, there have been many memorable milestones - milestones marked by sweat, effort and tears.

One of the most emotional memories for me was in 2014, when I was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis. At such a young age, with so many aspirations ahead, facing the disease was a huge shock, almost making me collapse.

Luckily, I am not alone. I have always had my family, teachers, teammates and great friends by my side. They constantly encouraged and gave me the strength to overcome the crisis and return to the track with a stronger spirit than ever."

“I have seen many female athletes who inspire with their resilience, such as Nguyen Thi Huyen, who returned to training and won the SEA Games Gold Medal after a short maternity leave. Role models like her are a great motivation for generations of female athletes to believe in the value of perseverance,” Nguyen Thi Oanh shared.

In the near future, Vietnamese sports will aim for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand. Nguyen Thi Oanh is still competing and is still the golden hope of the country's sports. She will still be a symbol to inspire young athletes. The next generations for the future of Vietnamese sports.

Nam Dinh Club has not changed its name yet

Before the information spread on the internet and some media about Nam Dinh football team changing its name to Ninh Binh Green Steel from the 2025-2026 season, Nam Dinh Green Steel club officially denied it.

According to the announcement sent to fans, the club confirmed that it will keep its current name, Nam Dinh Green Steel, and there are no plans, procedures or activities related to the name change.

The team is focusing on personnel preparation and training, towards the new season, where they will compete in 5 fronts: AFC Champions League Two, Southeast Asian Club Championship, National Super Cup, V.League and National Cup.

Nam Dinh Club emphasized that the name change information is completely inaccurate, causing confusion among the fan community.

In the 2025-2026 season, Nam Dinh will become the first Vietnamese team to compete in 5 tournaments in one season. If they go far in the tournaments, the team from the Southern region can play at least 56 matches, surpassing the record of 47 matches of the Hanoi club in the 2019 season.

Facing great pressure on the match schedule, coach Vu Hong Viet said the team will have a plan to strengthen its force. In addition to the return of midfielder Nguyen Xuan Son after injury, Nam Dinh is looking for more quality domestic and foreign players.

Coach Vu Hong Viet shared: "We need to clearly define each specific goal in the new season. After celebrating the championship, the leaders and I will sit down together to thoroughly discuss the upcoming direction." (HH)
