This morning, May 28, Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee Tran Luu Quang received Congressman John Moolenaar and a delegation of US congressmen at the Central Policy and Strategy Committee Headquarters, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
At the meeting, MP Moolenaar appreciated Vietnam's constructive approach to the tariff issue, expressed optimism about the positive results of the negotiations and that the two sides would reach a suitable agreement, bringing benefits to the people and businesses of the two countries.
Mr. Tran Luu Quang suggested that the two sides continue negotiating tariffs in a spirit of cooperation, listening to each other's requests, aiming for a harmonious agreement, ensuring the interests of both and in accordance with the current bilateral relationship.
Mr. Tran Luu Quang added that in the process of cooperation, the two sides need to share their difficulties, and at the same time propose that the US consider removing Vietnam from the list of restricted exports of strategic goods, creating favorable conditions for enhancing cooperation in science and technology and contributing towards balancing the bilateral trade balance.
US lawmakers also expressed their impression of Vietnam's strong development and the Vietnam-US relationship in recent years, affirming that the US values Vietnam's position and role in the region, as well as wishes to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The delegation of congressmen said that the US House of Representatives will strive to promote bilateral cooperation in all fields, contributing to making the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership increasingly practical and effective.
Also this morning, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong received a delegation of US House of Representatives members, welcomed the results of the recent round of tariff negotiations, and asked the US delegation to convey a message to President Donald Trump and his administration that Vietnam values its relationship with the US and hopes that economic, trade and investment cooperation will continue to benefit the people and businesses of both countries.
Mr. Tran Quang Phuong added that with the complementary nature of the two economies, Vietnam hopes that the two sides will find mutually beneficial solutions, towards a stable, harmonious, and sustainable economic and trade relationship, bringing practical benefits to businesses and people of the two countries.
Congressman Moolenaar and his delegation agreed with Vietnam's proposals to strengthen bilateral relations and pledged to convey Vietnam's message to President Trump and his administration.
Vietnam and the US held the second round of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade from May 19 to 22 in Washington DC. At the end of this round of negotiations, the two sides identified groups of issues of consensus and contents that need to be further discussed. The next round of negotiations is expected to take place in early June, according to the agreement between the heads of the two countries' negotiating delegations.
