Collect samples to analyze biological characteristics of black sea urchin.
The project is to develop black sea urchin seed production at the Institute's experimental facility in Do Son and the production facility of Hung Hai Seafood Company Limited (Do Son). Regarding the technique of producing black sea urchin seed, in the bottom larval stage, the study uses a mixture of biomass-cultured algae (fresh algae) and bottom algae combined with a mixture of industrial feed and minerals, vitamins on days when there is no fresh algae. The study also determined the density of floating larvae rearing from 1-3 individuals/ml; the density of bottom larval rearing from 1-3 individuals/cm 2 . The black sea urchin production model was tested on a 500m 2 hatchery scale, divided into 5 batches with 7,110 parent fish brought in for breeding. The production results have obtained 271,000 grade 1 breeds, with a maturity rate of >70%, a laying rate of >80%, a fertilized egg rate of >85%, a hatching rate of >90%, and a survival rate from the larval stage to the grade 1 breed stage of 2-2.5%.
The study also established a technical process for commercial black sea urchin farming in Hai Phong by determining the farming density of 10-15 individuals/m 2 , using natural food for higher farming efficiency than artificial food, however, the farming process can combine these two types of food. The commercial black sea urchin farming model was carried out in 8 farming areas in the Bach Long Vi tidal reef area, with an average stocking density of 13 individuals/m 2 , from the initial seed size of 0.79 g/individual, after 8-9 months of farming, the size in the farming areas reached an average of 60.15 g/individual, the average survival rate reached 61.57%.
The research results of the project were assessed by the Evaluation Council to meet the scientific objectives set out. However, to complete the research results report, the Project Management Board needs to edit and supplement more details on the research overview, parent sea urchin transportation techniques, food testing time and feeding methods, care and management methods. In particular, it is necessary to clarify the steps in the technical process of commercial black sea urchin farming (how to select breeds, breed sizes for each parent type, release time, etc.).
