Da 5 Bloods starring Ngo Thanh Van revolves around the journey back to Vietnam of four African-American veterans to search for the remains of their comrades who died in the war.
Ngo Thanh Van and Johnny Tri Nguyen reunite in a film about the Vietnam War
Taking the theme of the Vietnam War, the film is directed by talented director Spike Lee. He is the man behind the success of the 2019 Oscar-nominated masterpiece BlacKkKlansman . The film Da 5 Bloods features a series of famous Hollywood actors such as Chadwick Boseman (who played Black Panther ), Jean Reno ( Léon ) and especially the Vietnamese "action girl" - Ngo Thanh Van (English name: Veronica Ngo).

As director Spike Lee once shared, with Da 5 Bloods , Ngo Thanh Van will play the role of Hanoi Hannah - a Vietnamese female radio announcer working during the war. This combination of Ngo Thanh Van and director Spike Lee promises to bring the audience impressive and profound cinematic experiences.
Responding to the difficulties of transforming into the role of Hanoi Hannah - a real historical character, Ngo Thanh Van shared: “The most difficult thing about Hanoi Hannah is her voice. Because she is a powerful announcer and fluent in English. In addition, she is from the North and also pronounces English with a British accent. These are the two most difficult things that I had to practice when imitating her voice. I had to ask for the script and practice 3 months before the filming date. And I recorded my voice during the practice to see the difference. I read many different voices for Mr. Spike Lee and asked him to guide me to see which voice he felt was most suitable.”
In the movie Da 5 Bloods, actor Johnny Tri Nguyen also has a role - transforming into a tour guide for African-American veterans on their return to Vietnam.
Starring alongside Charlize Theron in The Old Guard
Continuing the good news on July 10, 2020, Ngo Thanh Van continued to appear in the blockbuster The Old Guard with "big sister" Charlize Theron (famous for her roles in Mad Max: Fury Road and Bombshell ) on Netflix.

She expressed her admiration for actress Charlize Theron by saying: “Charlize Theron is an extremely talented person. I have never met anyone as talented as her in my entire career. So when I acted with her, I was very nervous, but after a couple of times I got used to it and felt very lucky to learn a lot from this strong and talented woman.”

The Old Guard is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, and revolves around a group of mercenaries led by Andy (Charlize Theron) - who possesses the ability to die - who have been fighting to protect the world for centuries. However, during an urgent mission, their identities and extraordinary powers are suddenly revealed, putting the group's lives in danger. The Old Guard is an action-packed movie with a thrilling story that shows that living forever is much more difficult than we think.
When asked about upcoming projects, Ngo Thanh Van said: “Currently, I am focusing on the products that Studio68 is preparing to produce. I am a perfectionist, so I have to do everything I can to produce better quality products than what I have done before and serve Vietnamese audiences. I am also very progressive in building a brand for Vietnamese cinema, so whenever there is any opportunity with foreign partners, I will seize it and do it all.”

With the encouraging sign that cinemas have reopened after the period of social distancing, Ngo Thanh Van said: “Currently, cinema needs to restart after the epidemic season. This is a time when filmmakers and audiences really need to join hands. When the entire world cinema industry has been affected by the recent past, for the Vietnamese market, we need to restart with many factors. In which, the audience will play the most important role. If everyone continues to support Vietnamese cinema more strongly, I believe that we will have breakthrough products in the near future.”
Two international films featuring Ngo Thanh Van are Da 5 Bloods premiering on June 12 and The Old Guard on July 10 on Netflix.
