Economic diplomacy promotes growth drivers

Over the past years, Son La province has always focused on flexible implementation of foreign affairs, in which economic diplomacy has achieved important results, contributing to promoting international cooperation, expanding markets, attracting investment and developing socio-economy.

Adhering to the policies of the Party and the State, the province focuses on building economic diplomacy to serve development, focusing on people and businesses. Focusing on supporting businesses and people to integrate into the international economy; effectively implementing policies on land, investment, tax, business registration; simplifying administrative procedures; promoting planning of economic zones, production zones, transport infrastructure, border gates, logistics... to reduce costs, support exports and attract foreign investment.

Last May, the province started construction of the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway (section passing through the province), 73 days earlier than planned; coordinated with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to monitor the progress of detailed planning for Na San Airport for the period 2021-2030; at the same time, developed investment plans for key transport projects for the period 2026-2030, such as: Moc Chau - Son La City expressway (old); expanding the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway from 2 to 4 lanes; Son La - Yen Bai regional connecting road (now Lao Cai)...

The Provincial People's Committee directed the review and addition of transport and logistics development projects to the Son La province planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, as a basis for attracting investment and allocating resources for implementation; effectively exploiting the Long Sap and Chieng Khuong border gate economic zones and connecting routes with Laos and China to promote the circulation of export goods. At the same time, accelerate the planning of a logistics center in Moc Chau, linked to the agricultural wholesale market along National Highway 6, Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway; planning a logistics center in Mai Son, linked to Mai Son Industrial Park and Na San Airport, conveniently connected to National Highways 6, 4G, 37, serving the production, processing, consumption and export of agricultural products. Departments and branches also proactively update international economic information, share with businesses; promote promotion and attract investment on online channels; Support businesses to participate in international events to introduce products and find partners.

Since the beginning of the year, the province has organized working delegations with the Embassies of India and Korea in Vietnam; participated in many events promoting investment, trade, culture and tourism, such as: International Tourism Fair; Meeting on India - Vietnam business opportunities in Hanoi; Lao Cai International Tourism Fair; Conference "Meeting Korea 2025" in Hung Yen. Agencies and units in the province have proactively implemented many activities to promote products and investment, such as: Participating in the Forum "International Trade in the Era of Rising", with booths introducing tourism products and agricultural products; building clips promoting potential, project portfolio and key products (in English, Chinese, Russian) to serve the delegation in the Russian Federation; requesting Vietnam Post Corporation to support connection and consumption of products on e-commerce platforms and the national postal system; Coordinated to organize livestream of Phieng Khoai Plum Picking Festival in 2025...

Mr. Ha Nhu Hue, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: All levels and sectors have actively connected, promoted the consumption and export of agricultural products through international cooperation, providing promotional publications to Vietnamese representative agencies abroad. Thanks to promoting diplomatic activities, investment, trade and tourism promotion, in the past 6 months, the province's export turnover reached 112 million USD, agricultural products increased by 10.5%. The Department also coordinated to update the market, support enterprises in production, circulation and export; organize livestream consumption of agricultural products; promote on e-commerce platforms and promote administrative reform, creating favorable conditions for businesses.

Promoting the special friendship tradition between Vietnam and Laos, in the last sugarcane crop, the functional departments of Son La province coordinated with Hua Phan province to support sugarcane consumption for farmers. Mr. Ho Trung Kien, Head of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, said: The quarantine was carried out in accordance with the process, flexibly, shortening the time, helping Hua Phan province's sugarcane to be quickly brought to Son La Sugarcane Factory, ensuring quality. Sugarcane imported from Hua Phan has high sugar content, is food safe, and meets the prescribed standards. Son La Sugarcane Joint Stock Company purchased more than 3,000 tons, with a total value of over 4 billion VND.

Identifying economic diplomacy as the focus of foreign policy, playing the role of a driving force for development and integration, Son La province continues to promote market search, expand international cooperation, and mobilize maximum resources outside the province in combination with internal resources for economic development.
