Man City's 3-1 win over Brentford on February 5 raised the number of goals scored in round 23 to 45 - a new record for the number of goals in a Premier League round.
Midfielder Phil Foden's hat-trick not only helped Man City win three important points at Gtech Community Stadium but also created a new milestone in the history of the tournament. Excluding the rounds with make-up matches, the 10 matches of round 23 set a new record for the number of goals scored with 45. The previous record was 44 goals, set in round 2 of the 2020-2021 season and round 34 of last season.

According to the Premier League homepage, the single-round goal record reflects the trend of this year's season. There have been 730 goals scored in just 228 games this season, a rate of 3.2 goals per game. As a result, 2023-2024 is on track to break the record for the most goals scored in a 38-round season in the history of the tournament.
The current record was set last season, when 1,084 goals were scored. If the current rate of goals is maintained, this season will have 1,216 goals in 380 games, 42 more.
Currently, the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season was set in the inaugural season - 1992-1993 with 1222 goals. But at that time, the tournament had a total of 42 rounds so the goal ratio was only 2.6.
The matches on Saturday, February 3, also set a record for the number of goals scored in a single day with five Premier League matches, with 26 goals. The previous record of 24 goals was also set this season, on Sunday, December 3, 2023.
First, Everton and Tottenham's early game saw four goals scored. Then Burnley and Fulham shared the spoils at Turf Moor by the same scoreline. There were five goals at the Amex as Brighton beat Crystal Palace 4-1. There was a flurry of goals as Newcastle and Luton chased the scoreline to a 4-4 draw at St James' Park. The final game on 3 February also saw plenty of goals, all from Aston Villa as they thrashed bottom side Sheffield United 5-0.
The remaining matches of round 23 of the Premier League all had goals. Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Bournemouth. Chelsea and Wolves created a six-goal match at Stamford Bridge with a score of 4-2 in favor of the away team. Then, Man Utd beat West Ham 3-0. The Super Sunday match between Arsenal and Liverpool also had four goals scored, with a score of 3-1 in favor of the "Gunners".
