On the evening of August 25, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team suffered a 0-3 defeat to Germany. The scores of the sets were 18-25, 17-25, 21-25.
Despite a "blank" loss, the Vietnamese girls had a resilient performance. Few people thought they could surpass the 15-point mark in all 3 sets.
Especially in set 2, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team saved all 5 set points. In set 3, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team tried hard to catch up but could not create a surprise.
However, their tenacity and resilience surprised their opponents. After the match, main striker Lina Alsmeier had to admit that the match was not easy.
She shared: "We are really happy. Today the German team set the goal of winning but everything was not easy. The pressure was quite big so the match was quite difficult, but luckily we played confidently."
In this match, Alsmeier scored 13 points, the third highest scorer of the German team after Weitzel (15 points) and Orthmann (14 points). But all were defeated by Tran Thi Thanh Thuy of Vietnam, who had 17 points in this match.
Volleyball World website operated by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) had to praise the striker born in 1997.
They wrote: "The main attacker and captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy is the only one capable of scoring double digits on the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. She alone scored 17 points, all from attacking situations."
After two losses, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has been officially eliminated from the 2025 World Championship. However, they still have one last match against Kenya on August 27. That is the last chance for Thanh Thuy and her teammates to find the joy of victory.
