The 1,500 billion VND dam project in Quang Ngai is constantly 'late' in terms of completion.

After many delays, the Tra Khuc downstream dam project - a project with an investment capital of up to 1,500 billion VND in Quang Ngai - is still unfinished.

Recently, at the inspection of the progress of the Tra Khuc downstream dam project, Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Giang requested the locality and the investor to meet with the people to mobilize and propagate to completely resolve the site clearance work, focusing on completing the construction. This is a project with a "huge" investment capital and has been implemented for many years but has not been completed, causing frustration among the people.

According to VTC News, the dam downstream of Tra Khuc River was started in July 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2021 by the Quang Ngai Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. The total investment capital of the project is about 1,500 billion VND. This is a combined irrigation and traffic project, the main goal is to raise water on Tra Khuc River, in Quang Ngai City.

The structure of the project includes a sluice gate with 19 sections, with a total width of nearly 720m. The dam has a bridge and road with a length of 1,400m, of which the bridge is more than 970m long. The bridge on the dam helps connect the two river banks, making it convenient for people to travel between Hoang Sa on the North bank and Truong Sa on the South bank.

However, in recent times, the project has encountered many difficulties, causing the completion schedule to be extended from 2021 to 2023 and further delayed until August 2024. Up to now, the project is still in a "shelved" state.

One of the main reasons why the project has dragged on for many years is because the province has not yet completed the relocation and resettlement of many households affected by the Tra Khuc River dam. Many areas of land of these households have not yet been cleared.

At the first quarter press conference held in early April 2024, the leaders of Quang Ngai province said that the Tra Khuc River downstream dam project will continue to be implemented, but it is necessary to ensure synchronization with other projects for the dam to be effective. In particular, the Quang Ngai City centralized wastewater collection and treatment system project is focused on design and implementation by the province.

However, according to the reporter's investigation, the project of centralized wastewater collection and treatment system in Quang Ngai city, with a total investment of up to 1,000 billion VND and expected to be implemented from 2024 to 2027, is still "on paper". Therefore, the dam downstream of Tra Khuc river is unknown when it will be completed.
