Sweet taste of pears in the Northwest highlands

(BLC) - What impressed us was that the pears in Giang Ma commune have a sweet, refreshing and crunchy taste. All my friends love them, especially the interesting experience of being surrounded by clusters of pears full of fruit and taking many beautiful photos as souvenirs. I will buy a lot of pears here as gifts for my relatives - that is what many tourists shared when attending the first pear picking festival in 2024 taking place in Giang Ma commune, Tam Duong district.

The festival was held with many exciting activities such as: pear harvesting, artistic pear peeling, introducing and displaying fruit trays; agricultural product booths... attracting thousands of visitors from inside and outside the province to attend with joy and excitement. Ms. Pham Minh Nguyet - a tourist from Ha Giang province could not help but be surprised by the joyful and bustling atmosphere of the pear picking festival in Giang Ma commune because of its uniqueness, attractiveness, and richness of highland ethnic culture. She excitedly said: "Last year, my friend in Lai Chau sent me pears. The pears were delicious, crunchy, and sweet. This year, I got to attend the pear picking festival and directly enjoy the clean pears grown and cared for by the locals. It was a wonderful feeling."

With its cool soil and climate, Giang Ma commune, Tam Duong district is considered a potential land for growing temperate fruit trees such as peaches, pears, and plums. Exploiting the available advantages, the commune has promoted propaganda and mobilized people in the villages in the area to actively convert ineffective garden and hill land to grow fruit trees, including pears, to increase income and improve family life.

Currently, Giang Ma commune grows more than 50 hectares of VH6 pear trees. Since the beginning of the pear season, the commune has welcomed more than 3,000 visitors to visit and enjoy pears in the garden. Currently, the commune is orienting and focusing on supporting the people of Su Thang, Giang Ma, and Bai Bang villages to develop pear gardens associated with the development of eco-tourism and experiences.

The family of Mr. Giang A Sang - Bai Bang village is one of the pioneers in growing pear trees in a clean and safe organic direction. Currently, the family has more than 300 pear trees, of which 200 trees are harvested; in 2023, the income from pear trees will bring him and his wife over 80 million VND. In order for the family's pear products to have a brand and trademark, creating trust with people in the province and tourists from outside the province, Mr. Sang cooperated with the University of Economics and Business Administration (Thai Nguyen University) to successfully build the Giang Ma pear brand as a specialty of Tam Duong district, certified by the Intellectual Property Office in 2023.

Mr. Sang excitedly said: My family has been growing pears for more than 10 years. Since Giang Ma pears were recognized as a specialty of the district, clean pears have become more popular. This year, traders came to the garden to buy; tourists came to the garden to experience and buy a lot. From the beginning of the season until now, we have sold 42 million VND. To ensure the clean criteria, I follow the technical process, apply organic fertilizers, microbial fertilizers; prevent pests and diseases for plants using folk methods, without using chemicals.

The pear garden of Giang A Phu's family - Giang Ma village was chosen as the place to hold the pear picking competition at the commune's pear picking festival. Here, the teams picked big, round pears with plump skin under the witness and cheers of tourists and villagers. The atmosphere in the garden became more bustling as each team raced for time.

It can be seen that the way Giang Ma commune Party Committee and government have directed the development of pear trees associated with experiential tourism has brought high economic efficiency to the people. From there, it has created motivation and joy to help the people in the area continue to expand, form beautiful pear gardens, clean fruit to attract tourists and affirm the Giang Ma pear brand "sweet, fragrant, cool".
