Fishermen in Ky Anh town continuously catch tons of cobia

From early morning, the atmosphere at Ky Ninh wharf was extremely bustling. Dozens of fishing boats of Ky Ninh fishing village docked with full holds of tons of cobia.

Cobia (locally known as tho fish) is a small fish, mainly used to make traditional fish sauce. According to many fishermen, cobia fish sauce has a quality that is not inferior to anchovy fish sauce.

After a day at sea, Mr. Phan Van Tuan's boat (Tam Hai 2 Residential Area, Ky Ninh Ward) had a big win with more than 5 tons of cobia. Mr. Tuan said: " We went out to sea about 6 nautical miles from shore and found a large batch of cobia. The fish were purchased by traders at a stable price of 10,000 - 12,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, the income was more than 20 million VND ...".

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan's boat (Tam Hai 2 TDP, Ky Ninh ward) has just docked with more than 4 tons of cobia. Mr. Hoan excitedly shared: " This whole week, our boat has been going out to sea every day, on low days we get 2-3 tons, on high days we get 5-7 tons. After this trip, my fellow boatmen and I will have a good source of income to cover our living expenses, and feel secure going out to sea and sticking to the sea in the coming time...".

Baskets of fresh cobia were urgently brought ashore to be imported to traders.

According to fishermen's experience, if the weather conditions continue to be favorable as they are now, the source of cobia will still appear thickly at sea and can be exploited until the end of July.

Cobia fish are small in size and are mainly used to make delicious fish sauce. Therefore, when the fish are brought ashore, traders and processing facility owners in Ky Anh town come to buy them all.

Over the past week, more than 30 fishing boats with a capacity of 90 CV of fishermen in Ky Ninh have continuously had a big catch of cobia. The estimated catch in the past week is about 115 tons.

Not only does it bring high income to fishermen who directly exploit it, but it also creates jobs for local fishing logistics workers. The exploited cobia output ensures a source of raw materials for traditional fish sauce processing facilities in Ky Ninh and neighboring provinces...
