The match started with some notable plays from both sides. Tottenham's Pedro Porro had a shot wide in the first minute. PSG responded six minutes later with a complex combination, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's shot went wide.
Midway through the first half, Tottenham's Richarlison stole possession in midfield, played a one-two with Mohamed Kudus before unleashing a powerful long-range effort that forced PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier to push over the bar. Kudus then tried his luck again but was brilliantly saved by Marquinhos.
Tottenham took a surprise lead in the 39th minute. From Guglielmo Vicario's free kick, Cristian Romero headed into the box and Joao Palhinha fired towards goal. Chevalier made a brilliant save, sending the ball off the crossbar, but he was helpless against Micky van de Ven's rebound. Tottenham almost had a second goal before the break when Kudus headed in from Richarlison's assist, but the ball hit the post and bounced out.
Three minutes into the second half, Tottenham extended their lead. Another free kick from the Europa League holders found Romero near the left post. This time the Argentinian defender headed the ball across the line past Chevalier to make it 2-0. The stalemate continued in the following minutes, with Porro and Kevin Danso both hitting wide of the post.
With 25 minutes left, PSG finally had a shot on target through Desiré Doue, forcing Vicario to save. Fabian Ruiz picked up the rebound and set up Bradley Barcola for a goal, but the Spaniard was ruled out for offside. This opened up a long period of pressure for PSG, but it was fruitless until just five minutes left.
In the 85th minute, Lee Kang In made a sharp shot from the edge of the penalty area with his left foot into the goal, reducing the score to 1-2. Hope of an equalizer opened up for the reigning Champions League champions, PSG launched relentless attacks in the following minutes, they were rewarded when Ousmane Dembele passed the ball to Goncalo Ramos to head in the equalizer 2-2 in the 4th minute of injury time.
With the scoreless draw after regulation time, the two teams had to be decided by a penalty shootout. Tottenham took the lead immediately when Vitinha missed PSG's first penalty. However, the Parisians equalised after three penalties when Van de Ven was blocked by Chevalier. Things got worse for Tottenham when Mathys Tel missed, allowing Nuno Mendes to score the winning goal, thus helping PSG become the first French team to win the European Super Cup.
